Wild Things’ offense explodes in 1st win of season

BROCKTON, Mass. — Washington’s offense exploded on Tuesday in its first win of the season in a 14-5 victory over New England.
The Wild Things’ Andrew Czech, Quincy Latimore and Caleb McNeely hit home runs and McNeely had five RBI.
McNeely hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning and Latimore’s two-run shot came in the eighth. Czech’s solo blast in the fourth inning broke open a scoreless game.
Tommy Caufield had an RBI single in the fifth inning after New England took a 2-1 lead.
New England scored three in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-2 advantage but Washington scored 12 runs over the next three frames with three in the seventh, five in the eighth and four in the ninth.
Czech had an RBI single in the seventh and Tyreque Reed doubled to right centerfield for the Wild Things’ three runs in the inning.
McNeely had a two-run triple in the eighth and scored on an error before Latimore’s homer.
Caufield scored when Latimore reached on an error in the ninth.
McNeely had three hits, Caufield, Latimore, Czech, Reed and Carson Clowers had two hits apiece.
New England only had three hits, but still managed to score five runs on Brady West’s two-run homer in the fourth and J.R. DiSarcina’s three-run shot in the fifth. West’s home run was set-up following a walk and two batters reached via base on balls before DiSarcina’s homer.
Alex Carrillo pitched a scoreless eighth inning to earn the win in relief. He allowed one hit with a strikeout and walk.
Wild Things starter Malik Barrington yielded five runs on two hits with four strikeouts and five walks over five innings.
The two 1-3 teams will meet tonight at 6:30 in Game 2 of a three-game series.
