J. Louise Prete, 82, of Bobtown, died at 8:23 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012, in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg.
She was born October 10, 1930, in Maidsville, W.Va., a daughter of the late Jacob Hicks and Greta Arbogast Hicks Sanford.
Mrs. Prete resided most of her life in Bobtown, where she was a member of St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish and the Rosary Altar Society of the church. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Greene County Court and Shannopin Civic Club, where she served many offices, including president. With the civic club, Mrs. Prete assisted in many philanthropic endeavors in her community. In addition, she served on the board of directors for Greene ARC, was a member of Washington ARC and was active with Special Olympics in Westmoreland and Washington counties. For many years, Mrs. Prete co-owned and operated Prete’s Twin Twister in Dilliner.
She was an avid traveler.
On October 15, 1948, she married Louis A. Prete, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Gary L. Prete of Smithton; a daughter, Donna K. Pekar and husband Les of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Tracy J. Pekar, Kristie K. Rohrer, Jennifer E. Skumlien and Jessica L. Garnek; six great-grandchildren, Dylan Rohrer, Karissa Rohrer, Stephen Skumlien, Timothy Skumlien, Isabella Garnek and Isaiah Garnek; a brother, Kenneth Hicks and wife Anna of Newcomerstown, Ohio; three sisters, Shirley Beck of New Harmony, Utah, Carolyn Haney and husband Charles of Mineral City, Ohio, and Ruth Rager and her husband Brian of Canton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a daughter, Sharon A. Hockin.
Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, where a blessing service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, December 15, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ignatius of Antioch Roman Catholic Church, Bobtown, with the Rev. Lawrence V. Holpp as celebrant. Interment will follow in Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
