Edward and Shirley Link Smith of Burgettstown celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sept. 22 with a surprise party given by their children and spouse at sthe Slovan VFW. The Smiths were married September 29, 1962, in United Pentecostal Church in Weirton, W.Va., with the Rev. William Burton officiating. The couple have three children, Edward Jr. (Lorraine) of Eldersville, James (Sally) of Langeloth and Cindy (Charles) Kennedy of Bulger. Their four grandchildren are Jamie, Kayla and Marie Smith and Joshua Kennedy; and one great-granddaughter. Mr. Smith retired from Weirton Steel in 1999 and enjoys working on cars. Mrs. Smith retired from Weirton Medical Center in 1994 and enjoys spending time with her grandchildren. Both are members of Burgettstown Senior Citizens.
