Canon-McMillan High School’s wrestling team capped one of the most prolific runs in PIAA history by winning its fourth and fifth state team tournament titles over the past three seasons.
The Big Macs pulled out a thrilling 34-31 victory over rival Central Dauphin in the finals at Giant Center in Hershey in February. The Big Macs went on to breeze to the team title in the March at the individual tournament, scoring 99 points to runner-up Central Dauphin’s 75. The PIAA awards two team titles each season, one each at the team and individual tournaments.
Cody Wiercioch finished his C-M career by winning a second consecutive individual title with a 7-2 decision over Joey Gartland of Penncrest in the Class AAA 170-pound finals. Connor Schram, a four-time finalist, also won his second title with a 5-3 decision over Michael Kemerer of Franklin Regional in the 126- pound title bout. Solomon Chishko won the 145-pound title with an
8-0 blanking of Chris Vassar of Cedar Cliff.
Dalton Macri finished second at 120 after a 3-1 loss to Sam Krivus of Hempfield. Alex Campbell was an eighth-place finisher at 220.
Canon-McMillan became the first team in WPIAL history to win four consecutive Class AAA team titles by defeating Franklin Regional 31-26.
