A West Virginia woman and her 4-year-old son were injured in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 79 in South Strabane Township shortly before 5 p.m. Friday.
State police said the 26-year-old woman, who was not identified, was traveling south when she lost control of her vehicle, drove into a steep median and hit a guardrail near the Meadow Lands exit.
Both southbound lanes of I-79 were shut down, and medical helicopters landed on the highway to fly the woman and boy to Pittsburgh hospitals.
Police said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
The lanes remained closed for about an hour, and traffic was re-routed onto the Meadow Lands exit.
