WPX Energy’s employees in Southpointe are joining the United Way of Washington County’s Annual Campaign for the first time this year. Their 2012 inaugural United Way campaign at the corporate headquarters in Tulsa, Okla., raised just over $450,000 thanks to the generosity of the company and employees. Nationwide, WPX Energy raised more than $800,000 for 22 United Way affiliates across the country last year. United Way of Washington County is anticipating an equally enthusiastic response from local employees here, as well.

Since year end 2011, WPX has been a standalone, publicly traded company that produces natural gas, oil and natural gas liquids. WPX Energy was previously a wholly owned subsidiary of Williams – an energy infrastructure company headquartered in Oklahoma. WPX operates in several states, including Pennsylvania, thanks to their Marcellus Shale operations here.

“Wherever we operate, WPX takes an active role in the community by investing both time and financial resources to make increasingly better places for people to live and work in,” says John Sinesi, WPX drilling engineer. “We want to be difference-makers in our communities, so the company encourages employees to get involved to make a positive impact in our local areas. Our involvement with our local United Way provides an excellent opportunity for our employees to learn about local needs and programs.”

Employees kicked off their inaugural campaign in early September with a pizza party and a presentation on local United Way supported programs and services. WPX Energy will match all employee contributions and has offered prizes for employees who opt to participate.

“We live in these communities. We believe in these communities. We’re going to be a wonderful corporate citizen wherever we operate,” said WPX Energy CEO Ralph Hill.
