South Fayette senior tight end Logan Sharp has developed into a nightmare for opposing defenders. Using his 6-3 frame, Sharp often leaps over players to catch passes from Brett Brumbaugh.
After a six-touchdown junior season, Sharp was even better as a senior – flashing receiving skills reminiscent of Justin Watson, an Observer-Reporter Elite 11 selection in 2013.
Sharp was already receiving interest from FCS and Ivy League schools before his incredible senior season began. He was a key component in the Lions’ passing game with 48 catches for 856 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Watson, who caught 22 touchdowns to help the Lions win the 2013 state title, had 42 catches for 497 yards and two touchdowns at Penn this season.
The pair will once again be teammates after Sharp committed to Penn Wednesday.
Along with Conner Beck, Sharp and Watson made up an unstoppable receiving corps last fall that led South Fayette to the state championship.
Sharp was visited at school Wednesday by Jon Dupunt, the Quakers’ recruiting coordinator and linebackers coach. Dupont wanted to gauage Sharp’s interest in Penn. With scholarship offers from Lafayette and Dartmouth, Sharp was torn. He decided to discuss the situation with his parents.
It only took Sharp a few hours to make up his mind.
The opportunity to join Watson and Pine-Richland senior quarterback Ben DiNucci at Penn was too good to pass up. He is expected to play H-back in head coach Ray Priore’s offense.
“My boy Watson is there and with Ben DiNucci going there, so I just thought it was the place for me,” Sharp said. “I’m really excited about getting there.”
