Back-to-back solo home runs in the third inning provided the cushion in the Washington Wild Things’ 3-2 victory over the Traverse City Beach Bums Wednesday.
The victory was the second straight over Traverse City in this three-game series, the Wild Things’ first road series victory against the Beach Bums since June of 2009.
C.J. Beatty hit his sixth home run and Stewart Ijames his fourth in the third inning to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead.
Washington had a 1-0 lead in the second when Jim Vahalik singled in Garrett Rau.
Traverse City took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning on an RBI-double by Chris Cowell and a single by Jeff DiBlieux.
Chris Phelan pitched seven strong innings, allowing just the two runs, to pick up the win. Jonathan Kountis pitched the ninth for his sixth save.
