There's a story behind the close-up photo of this red-bellied woodpecker sent to us by Jeanie Jarvis of East Finley Township. Jeanie says the woodpecker was enjoying suet at an outdoor feeder when something scared him and he flew into a window at Jeanie's home. The bird was knocked senseless, but after examining him for injuries and finding none, Jeanie's husband placed the bird on the windowsill. The woodpecker gradually opened his eyes and, after about 10 minutes, flew away.

Sean Langbell took this photo in the Greer tunnel along the Montour Trail in Cecil. The walls are frozen, and water leaking from the tunnel roof has formed large icicles and ice mounds. Sean says the recent icy weather has created some phenomenal formations to walk over, with extreme caution.
