WINGATE (AP) – State police said they are investigating after a central Pennsylvania farmer shot two dogs who attacked his deer, killing one of the animals.
But troopers told WJAC-TV the farmer could be justified if they confirm his version of events.
The farmer, Steve Stern, said he ordered two employees to shoot the dogs injured two deer and killed a third. That animal had its neck broken and it was chewed up in the face and hindquarters.
Stern said he has about 50 deer on his farm near Wingate, Centre County, and people have been criticizing him on social media sites since the dogs were shot Tuesday. But police said Stern has a right to protect his livestock, and the farmer said he won’t prosecute if police determine who owns the dogs.
