Day four, week one — complete. I have never been so happy to see Thursday in my life. What have I felt? Pain in areas I didn’t know existed, embarrassment for reasons I didn’t know existed, and happy about things I didn’t know existed. The pain has come from rolling on balls, lifting things while rolling on balls, stretching parts of my body that have been dormant for years, and running. Lots of running. Today we did drills that I remember from my basketball days. I quickly realized I’m not 20 anymore, but I held my own. I dealt with it by cussing… a lot (sorry Mom), and by making humorous cracks at myself, teammates and definitely, Kendra, our trainer. Advil has been my friend.
So about Kendra — yeah, I may want to slap her, but I do truly admire her. She is good. She is a good person and a solid trainer. Now I’m not sure I’m buying her a Christmas card yet, but I feel like I may at the end of the six weeks. She admitted she is going to push us hard, so I am mentally preparing for the remaining five weeks.
Being happy about things I didn’t know existed is for the fact that I love to be able to learn new things and experience new things and do them without making a total fool of myself. I won’t lie that there was a certain amount of fear associated with doing this. I am 47 — can I do it? I am overweight — what if I can’t keep up? But this awesome team we have formed with our leader Kendra pushing us has made me realize that I can and I am going to make it.
So week one, I showed you. Bring on week two…
