Two-time PIAA Class AA shot put champion Kailyn Clancy is returning closer to home. The California High School graduate finalized her transfer from Iowa State to Pitt this week and will be immediately eligible to compete with the Panthers’ track and field team.
Clancy, who did not compete for Iowa State this year, repeated as the shot put champion as a senior in 2014 with a throw of 45-6 3/4 inches at Shippensburg University. She won the first state title in the program’s history as a junior with a put of 40 feet, 11 1/4 inches.
She also received interest from Penn State and St. Francis (Pa.). Clancy finished her high school career last June by placing seventh at the New Balance Outdoor National Championships at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, N.C. The Panthers have four throwers returning in 2015-16, two of which are seniors.
