College coaches have spent the past three weeks focusing on the recruiting classes of 2015 and 2016. Plenty of WPIAL players picked up scholarship offers over the past two weeks and Washington junior Nate Swart can add his name to the list.
Swart, a 6-5, 230-pound tight end/defensive end, received his first Division I offer from the University of Toledo over the weekend.
Swart ranked second on the Prexies in three receiving categories with 18 catches, 358 yards and four touchdowns as a tight end. On defense, he registered 31 tackles, 10 ½ for a loss and 3 ½ sacks.
He will likely play tight end at the next level, but does offer a team options. Not only does he fit as a defensive end in a 4-3 scheme, but could be used as a rush linebacker in a 3-4. His next step will be gaining more muscle and proving he can take on big linemen. Swart is set to visit Pitt on Wednesday and it looks like this is one of many offers headed his way.
• Also, Prexies senior wide receiver DeQuay Isbell chose to play football at West Liberty, a Division II school.
Isbell caught 24 passes for 761 yards and scored 20 total touchdowns. He had seven multi-touchdown games. The 6-1 speedster was drawing Division I interest, but many coaches were looking for versatility. Though Isbell has dominant straight-line speed, his work on defense needed plenty of work. It was too big of a risk for many schools to take, but Isbell will have a chance to prove them wrong by joining a solid Division II program.
