The WPIAL softball brackets have been released and there are certainly some intriguing matchups for local teams. Chartiers-Houston grabbed the top seed in Class A, Canon-McMillan will open against a tough Latrobe team and Burgettstown will face Neshannock after losing to the Lancers in the PIAA quarterfinals and WPIAL semifinals a year ago. The WPIAL baseball playoff brackets will be released tomorrow afternoon.
Here’s a look at all first-round matchups for local teams:
Monday, May 11:
Waynesburg (8-11) vs. South Allegheny (7-6) at Cal U, 2 p.m.
Tuesday, May 12:
No. 7 West Greene (10-7) vs. No. 10 Greensburg Central Catholic (9-3) at Cal U, 2 p.m.
No. 3 Jefferson-Morgan (11-2) vs. No. 14 Western Beaver (6-4) at Fairhaven Park, 4 p.m.
No. 8 Monessen (10-3) vs. No. 9 North Catholic (9-6) at Baldwin, 3 p.m.
No. 7 Canon-McMillan (12-3) vs. No. 10 Latrobe (9-7) at Cal U, 6 p.m.
Wednesday, May 13:
No. 7 Carmichaels (13-3) vs. No. 10 Freeport (10-4) at Cal U., 2 p.m.
No. 8 McGuffey (14-2) vs. No. 9 Burrell (11-4) at Cal U, 4 p.m.
No. 6 Burgettstown (17-2) vs. No. 11 Neshannock (8-6) at North Allegheny, 3 p.m.
No. 6 Trinity (13-4) vs. No. 11 Central Valley (10-5) at Fairhaven park, 2 p.m.
No. 9 South Fayette (11-7) vs. No. 8 Mars (10-5) at Hampton, 3 p.m.
No. 15 Bentworth (11-9) vs. Mohawk (13-0) at Baldwin, 7 p.m.
Chartiers-Houston (17-2) received the top seed in Class A and a first-round bye. The Bucs will face the winner of Monessen and North Catholic in the quarterfinals.
If Waynesburg defeats South Allegheny, the Raiders play top-seeded Deer Lakes (17-1) at Hampton, 5 p.m., May 13.
