The PIAA Track & Field Championships begin Friday morning at Shippensburg University. Though there are not any local athletes who are the odds-on favorite, which was the case last year with Jenna Lucas of Fort Cherry in the javelin and Kailyn Clancy of California in the shot put, but there is plenty to keep an eye on.
Wash High’s DeQuay Isbell is seeded second in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes, Fort Cherry’s Koryn Jozwiakowski is seeded sixth in the Class AA triple jump after winning the WPIAL title last week and Canon-McMillan’s Ethan Linderman is ranked fourth in the Class AAA 3,200-meter run.
The meet will begin at 9 a.m. with the preliminaries for every race running concurrently, and there are 14 finals in field events. The field events in which a state champion will be crowned Friday include AA girls pole vault, AA girls long jump, AAA girls high jump, AAA girls shot put, AA boys triple jump, AA boys javelin, AAA boys discus, AA girls high jump, AA girls discus, AAA girls long jump, AAA girls javelin, AA boys shot put, AAA boys pole vault and AAA boys triple jump.
