After a week filled with thrilling games and a few suprises, including the Belle Vernon girls’ unlikely run to a playoff spot, the WPIAL basketball postseason is set. Twenty-six local teams have qualified for the playoffs and the brackets will be released at Tuesday’s pairings meeting. Once the brackets are released, I’ll have a full breakdown of each classification in boys and girls basketball.

Here’s the list of teams that qualified for the WPIAL playoffs:

Latrobe, Penn-Trafford, Norwin, Hempfield, Penn Hills, Plum, Gateway, Franklin Regional, Pine-Richland, North Hills, Central Catholic, Butler, Chartiers Valley, Baldwin, Bethel Park, Peters Township and Mt. Lebanon.

Mars, Highlands, Hampton, Knoch, New Castle, Beaver Fallas, Ambridge, Central Valley, Indiana, Yough, Southmoreland, Mount Pleasant, Steel Valley, West Mifflin, Laurel Highlands, Thomas Jefferson, West Allegheny, South Fayette, Trinity and Montour.

Lincoln Park, Laurel, Neshannock, Riverside, Greensburg Central Catholic, Wilkinsburg, Shady Side Academy, East Allegheny, Bishop Canevin, Washington, Seton-La Salle, Chartiers-Houston, Brownsville, Charleroi, Waynesburg, Frazier, Beth-Center, Aliquippa, Quaker Valley, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Avonworth.
