Koreans have grown to be known for their elaborate and intricate skincare regimens, and their smooth, radiant, youthful looking skin as well. It’s no wonder why Korean beauty products are currently the fastest growing niche in skincare and cosmetics! What Koreans have practiced for decades, others are only beginning to understand.

Here are 7 grains of wisdom you should pick up from a typical Korean skincare regimen

1. Protect your skin with sunscreen. Asians in general, and not just the Koreans, do not like basking in the sun as much as Americans and other westerners do. It is typical to see Asian women walking on the streets, even on the beach with umbrella on hand. So, sunscreen, including sunscreen for face, or whatever product that will add a layer of protection from the sun is welcomed with open arms. The pain of religious application and carrying umbrella around, is paying off after all.

2. Cleanse and tone. Koreans double cleanse with a toner but, rather than just seeing toner as a way to unclog pores of excess oils and impurities, they also use these as a way to tame and condition their skin. Restoring pH balance is also the objective for adding in this routine so, make sure you see this on the labels but not see drying alcohols in the list of ingredients. It is a necessary step before soaking in nutrition all the way to an Aurealux eye gel or a similar product.

3. Give your skin the benefit of soaking in a highly concentrated form of nutrition. Get your skin nourishment from an ampoule. If essences contain concentrated amounts of moisture, vitamins and antioxidants, an ampoule contains even more concentrated levels of these. Go spoil your skin with an ampoule. It is summer after all, and your skin can make use of the added boost.

4. Pack in more nutrition. The beauty of the Korean skincare routine is that it makes use of several layers of sheel, lightweight fluids which are easily absorbent and won’t leave residues and grease on the surface. So, go ahead and put on some more essence.

5. Carry a face mist around with you. Keep rehydrating your skin on the go! Other than making sure that you are carrying around a sunscreen for face in your purse, make sure you also have a face mist in there. A face mist moisturizes your skin without the need to strip down your makeup. Simply clear the excess oils on the surface with a tissue or blotting paper. Then, spray the mist a about five inches away from your face — kind of like when you’re putting on a strong perfume, spray then bring yourself into the mist. Never spray the face mist too close to your skin or you’ll end up with makeup that’s smudged and slipping all over your skin.

6. Use a sheet mask. Different sheet masks have different uses, and it all goes down to the ingredients where you are soaking these in. If you don’t have access to a sheet mask, try rice paper. Simply soak in your favorite essence or a homemade moisturizing, cleansing or brightening ingredients like avocados, Vitamin E capsules, papaya, cucumber, honey or even yogurt. Then, place the soaked sheets on your skin. Leave on for about 15 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water. It is a great way to condition your skin long before your essence, anti-wrinkle cream or eye cream, such as Aurealux Eye Gel, can treat your skin.

7. Apply an exfoliation cream. Make this cream a regular in your evening routine. It literally melts away your blemishes while you sleep, without the harsh side effects of old ways of exfoliating. An exfoliation cream gently lifts away otherwise tough, damaged outer layers of skin so that you can wake up feeling refreshed and renewed. Use this nightly just as you would a sunscreen for face daily.

If, like most women, you’ve been longing to see a real difference skincare products can make, try this Korean regimen and you will never go back to your old ways.
