Washington County District Attorney Gene Vittone has responded to a report on social media that a 6-year-old Chartiers-Houston student was assaulted by two to three students on a school bus Friday.
“I looked at the video today. It’s a really clear video. It does not show any type of assault,” Vittone said. “I don’t know where this is coming from.”
A woman received hundreds of comments after posting an account of her son, a kindergarten student at Allison Park Elementary School in Chartiers Township, being punched, choked and kicked. The woman said her son got off the bus with a red and swollen face, with scratches on his face and neck. She said she took him to the emergency room, where he was diagnosed with bruising, contusions and testicular trauma.
The woman said that on Monday she viewed the video, which showed a student throwing punches and stomping her son.
Vittone said the Chartiers Township police department is investigating, but, because of the age of the students, any action would be handled by Washington County Children and Youth Services.
“I didn’t see it on the video. I saw the kid come off the bus. He looked fine,” Vittone said. “Police will do what they have to do. They will investigate.”
In an email, Chartiers-Houston Superintendent John George said the district will not comment because of the confidential nature of student information.
“Please be assured that we are addressing this matter,” he said. “Safety and security of all our students is a top priority.”
The woman who posted the story did not return several messages.
