The year 2017 will be remembered in Washington and Greene counties as one dominated by the female athlete. From a small school in the southwest corner of the state winning a PIAA softball championship with a comeback for the ages, to a girls basketball team going where no other Washington County squad had gone before, to another basketball team ending a 25-year title drought to a hurdler winning a state gold medal from where no other hurdler or sprinter has won, it was quite a remarkable year for local female athletes. The year also had championships that were celebrated, record-setting performances and perfect seasons.
