A West Virginia man died Thursday morning when a tree fell onto his pickup truck in Greene County.

Scott W. Miller, 36, of Valley Grove, was driving west in the 500 block of Ridge Road in Jefferson Township when the tree struck the cab of his truck, crushing the roof and windshield, and killing him instantly, state police said.

Miller’s truck continued to travel another 50 yards before it came to rest in a small culvert on the side of the road. The truck was discovered about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, police said.

Greene County Deputy Coroner Mary Lewis pronounced Miller dead at 9:22 a.m. The cause and manner of death were not immediately released by the coroner’s office.

Jefferson volunteer firefighters assisted state police at the scene.
