Cal women have no trouble with Mansfield

The No. 10-ranked California University women’s basketball team scored 17-unanswered points in the second quarter on Sunday afternoon on the way to a 71-49 win over Mansfield in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at the Convocation Center.
The Vulcans improved to 4-0 this season and 2-0 mark in the PSAC. The Mountaineers fall to 3-2 overall with a 1-1 record in conference action.
Senior Shatara Parsons led all players with 24 points after shooting 8 of 15 from the field and 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. She also pulled down nine rebounds, four on offense, and had four assists and three steals while playing 33 minutes. Parsons is averaging a career-high 26.0 points per game after four straight 20-point games this season while also shooting 54.8 percent (40 of 73) from the floor.
Junior Mia Cushon finished with 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting and added seven rebounds, three assists and five steals in 29 minutes. Redshirt sophomore Natalia Casals added 12 points and five assists, and junior Abbey Sporio collected 10 points and three rebounds off the bench.
Senior forward Alyssa Mullins led Mansfield with 13 points on four of six from the floor and five-of seven from the free-throw line. Classmate Brielle Kelly added 10 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
Geneseo 73, Waynesburg 59: The Waynesburg University women’s basketball team played its second game of the weekend at the Hampton Inn Tip-Off Classic, which was hosted by Messiah College. The Yellow Jackets faced off with SUNY Geneseo on Sunday and fell by the final score of 73-59.
The loss was the second in as many games for the Yellow Jackets. Senior MacKenna Drazich poured in a game-high 19 points on eight-of-13 shooting from the floor. Drazich knocked down 50 percent of her six three-point tries and pulled down five rebounds in 27 minutes.
Senior forward Addy Knetzer added 12 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore Erin Joyce came off the bench to score 13 points, 12 of which came from three-point range, in 27 minutes.
Lindsay Halpin and Melissa Brooks combined for 27 points for Geneseo.
Men’s results
Mansfield 81, California 67: Despite four players scoring in double-digits, the California University men’s basketball team suffered an 81-67 loss to Mansfield at the Convocation Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play.
The Vulcans are 3-2 overall with a 1-1 record in the PSAC. It marked the first time this season the Vulcans were held to under 85 points in a game. The Mountaineers won their first game of the year to move to 1-2 this season behind a 1-1 record in conference action.
Junior Jahmere Howze led Cal with 18 points and added seven rebounds, two assists, one block and a team-high three steals. Senior Terry Davis Jr. scored 17 points, and had eight rebounds and three assists in 35 minutes.
Whitworth 83, Waynesburg 58: The Waynesburg University men’s basketball team ended its season-opening West Coast trip Saturday night with an 83-58 loss to Whitworth in Spokane, Wash.
Waynesburg (0-2) was led by freshman Matt Popeck, who scored a team-high 12 points. Senior wing Jon Knab added 11 points and seven rebounds and senior forward Marcus Wallace scored 10.
Kyle Roach led four Whitworth players in double figure with 14 points.
