Employees ranging from CEOs to part-timers are making plans to show support for the community-wide fundraising effort. United Way Campaigns can be as low-key and quiet or as active and event filled as the company allows. Some prefer an informational speaker at an employee meeting, while others go all out and conduct raffles, jeans days, breakfasts, lunches, tailgates, pizza parties and contests. These days campaign season, which traditionally ran September through November, runs year-round to better accommodate company’s busy schedules.

United Way staff encourages planning campaign events as a way to generate enthusiasm and support and to give everyone a chance to participate in some way. Ideally, a United Way Campaign lasts from two to three weeks and should be both enjoyable for the workforce and serve as a means to educate them about local charitable agencies and the services available locally for people in temporary need.

Among the Southpointe businesses supporting United Way are: Mylan, Columbia Gas, Range Resources, WesBanco, Lumos Networks, Halliburton, EQT, AccuTrex, VITAC, Community Bank, CDMG, PNC, as well as several law firms and financial institutions.

Southpointe workers are not only generous with their donations. Their involvement with United Way goes beyond the campaign season and incorporates United Way’s nationwide call to action, GIVE-ADVOCATE-VOLUNTEER. United Way is instrumental in connecting local agencies in need of volunteer help with companies with employees eager to pitch in and help out. Community involvement is strongly encouraged, whether it be advocating on behalf of an important local issue or giving a few hours as a volunteer.

Dozens from Southpointe have served on the volunteer review panels that meet with local charities to decide how and where to invest United Way’s dollars for the benefit of the local community. United Way of Washington County is the most effective and efficient way to help the greatest number of people in our community. Employees recognize the importance of the services being provided by agencies funded by United Way and the positive impact on the community.

The entire community benefits when people are engaged in improving local conditions. This year, thanks to the generosity of individuals and companies, $1,184,913 was raised by United Way of Washington County.

Those contributions are now being invested in community programs and services, including at the Washington City Mission, Catholic Charities, Domestic Violence Services, the Red Cross, CASA, The Literacy Council, The Lemoyne Community Center, Legal Aid, Head Start and services for the homeless, credit counseling, dental care, homework help, mentoring and health and nutrition programs.
