High school football
Bentworth closed its regular season with a 21-6 nonconference victory at Riverview Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats have a 4-6 record that includes victories in two of their last three games.
Riverview is 2-7.
Playoff-bound Carmichaels rolled to a 36-0 victory over host Bishop Canevin in a nonconference game.
The Mikes led 16-0 at halftime. Carmichaels, the Tri-County South Conference runner-up, enters the WPIAL Class A playoffs with a 7-2 record. Bishop Canevin also is in the playoff field with a 3-6 record.
No details from either game were made available to the Observer-Reporter.
PAC cross country
Senior Harley Moyer won the men’s race by almost 24 seconds to help the Washington & Jefferson men’s team finish second at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday.
Waynesburg won its second consecutive women’s team title and the Yellow Jackets’ Angie Marchetti captured the individual championship.
Moyer won his first PAC title and Runner of the Year honors after posting a time of 25:29.84, which bested Grove City’s Drew Thibault by 23.37 seconds. W&J finished second in the team standings behind Grove City.
The Waynesburg men placed sixth in the 10-team field and were led by freshman Matt Durgin, who was 26th in a time of 27:46.49.
Trey Razanauskas joined Moyer as first team All-PAC by placing fourth in 26:05.63.
Marchetti, a senior, is Waynesburg’s second consecutive individual champiuon. She earned PAC Runner of the Year honors by posting a winning time of 23:18.67. The yellow Jackets had seven runners place in the top 17, including Teghan Simonton and Elinore Loch, who also eanred first team al-conference honors.
The W&J women placed sixth in the 10-team field, paced Maggie Briceland, who crossed the finish line 14th in 24:32.66.
Men’s soccer
Washington & Jefferson wrapped up regular-season play with a 3-1 victory over Waynesburg in a PAC match Saturday.
W&J moves to 11-6 overall with a 4-4 record in the PAC while Waynesburg falls to 5-9-2 overall and 3-5 in conference.
The win advances the Presidents to the tournament for the first time since 2013.
They will travel to Thomas More Wednesday, Nov. 1 for the semifinals.
