The 29th Annual Senior Expo will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Washington Crown Center, 1500 W. Chestnut St., Washington. The event will feature approximately 150 local, state and federal agencies, as well as businesses, all of which provide a range of programs and services for individuals 55 and over in mind.

“One of the purposes of the Senior Expo is to provide a single venue for the dissemination of all of the information that must be interpreted by seniors as a result of the ever-changing landscape of programs and services,” says Leslie Grenfell, executive director of the Southwestern PA Area Agency on Aging. “Another element of the Senior Expo that has evolved over the years is the ongoing celebration of senior life that is shared by everyone who attends.”

Vendor displays and experts on aging will be available to discuss products and issues that affect seniors. Participants can take advantage of numerous opportunities offered at the Expo, such as the various free health screenings and the flu shots being administered this year by Cornerstone Care and Rite Aid.

In addition, Aging Services of Washington County will distribute Farmers Market Nutrition Vouchers to those who qualify. Ask to be directed to the Farmers Market Voucher table to see if you are eligible for the $20 in vouchers redeemable at area farmers’ markets. Arrive during the morning and, while supplies last, enjoy a cup of complimentary coffee with pastries.

“We are so pleased to again be a part of the Annual Senior Expo here at Washington Crown Center – for the 29th year!” says Civil Knox, Washington Crown Center general manager/marketing director. “We look forward to this event each year as it is one of our largest that focuses on our senior community. The many agencies and the continuing community support make it one of the best in our state.”

WJPA will host a Live Remote with radio personality Pete Povich broadcasting throughout the event. Local vocalist Bobby Shawn will perform on the stage near the former Macy’s from 11 a.m. until noon.

This year’s Expo will feature a “Sponsor Spotlight,” during which time State Senator Camera Bartolotta, State Representative Brandon Neuman, Columbia Gas, Washington County Commissioners Larry Maggi, Diana Irey Vaughan and Harlan Shober, Jr.; and Civil Knox will join Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging executive director Leslie Grenfell on stage to be recognized.

A special prize drawing of a $100 Giant Eagle gift card, donated by Evolution Energy, will be awarded during the Sponsor Spotlight. The individual whose name is drawn must be present to claim the prize.

After the “Sponsor Spotlight,” Bobby Shawn will return to the stage to continue his vocal entertainment that has become a part of the Senior Expo history. The winning names of the more than 30 vendor door prize drawings will be announced from the stage at 2 p.m. to conclude the event.

For more information on the Senior Expo, call the Southwestern PA Area Agency on Aging, Inc. Washington County office at 724-228-7080.
