In baseball

Chase Angotti only allowed two hits and a pair of earned runs over 6 1/3 innings as Ringgold defeated South Park, 6-4, in a Class 4A Section 3 game.

Angotti struck out six and had help when the Rams scored four runs in the second inning to give them a lead they wouldn’t surrender.

Koby Bubash had a two-run double and Jake Rongaus went 2-for-2 and drove in a pair of runs for Ringgold (4-1, 5-1).

South Park is 1-2 in section and 6-3 overall.

  • Cam Weston hit a three-run home run with one out in the top of the seventh inning to spark a Canon-McMillan comeback victory over Class 6A Section 3 opponent Allderdice, 7-5.

The Big Macs trailed 5-2 entering the final inning when Allderdice was forced to start the frame without starting pitcher Tanner Jacobson (pitch count), who limited C-M to only two hits with 10 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.

Greydon Piechnick hit a two-run double to give C-M (3-1, 6-2) the lead with two outs in the seventh.

Jacobson also had a double for Allderdice (0-5, 0-5).

  • Dylan Cannon hit a walk-off single to score Nick Ackerman as West Mifflin defeated Class 4A Section 3 opponent Belle Vernon, 3-2, in nine innings.

The Titans tied the game at 3-3 and extended it into extra innings with a pair of runs in the seventh inning.

Trey Manspeaker and Ryan Ruffling each had two hits for West Mifflin (3-1, 6-2).

Jake Rathway led the offensive effort for Belle Vernon (3-0, 3-0) by going 3-for-4.

  • The Calfornia lineup provided cushion for starting pitcher Jacob Swartz with six runs in the first two innings as the Trojans defeated Beth-Center, 8-4, in a Class 2A Section 1 contest.

Brendan Sheehan and Brody Conner each had a double for California (3-2, 3-3).

Bailey Lincoski hit a double for Beth-Center (1-2, 2-3).

  • Dylan Wilson went 3-for-4 to lead Carmichaels past Class 2A Section 1 opponent Frazier, 7-4.

Tied 4-4 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Mikes recaptured the lead on a Wilson double. They then added a pair of runs on a Nathan Broadwater single.

Nick Mundell also had a hit and scored three runs for Carmichaels (3-1, 4-2).

Mason Kelly went 3-for-5 for Frazier (2-1, 2-3).

  • Destin Weiser and Roman Lombardi combined for seven strong innings on the mound to lead Chartiers-Houston pasts Bentworth, 8-3, in a Class 2A Section 1 contest.

The two pitchers for the Bucs only surrendered three hits and one earned run while combining to strike out eight.

Noah Minney had a pair of doubles for Chartiers-Houston (3-1, 4-2).

Bentworth falls to 0-4 in section and 1-5 overall.

  • Four players had a multi-hit game for South Fayette as the Lions cruised to a 9-4 victory over Beaver in a Class 4A Section 2 game.

Joey Alcorn, Eli Snider, Nolan Lutz and Tyler Bedillion led the way offensively for South Fayette, which improves to 4-1 in section and 6-3 overall.

Alcorn and Bedillion each had a triple.

Beaver (2-3, 3-3) was paced by Zach Hansen, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

  • Tre Cunningham threw a complete-game shutout to lead Jeannette to a 7-0 Section 2-A win over visiting Jefferson-Morgan.

Cunningham, who is also a football and basketball star at Jeannette (3-1, 4-1), struck out nine and walked none, allowing only three hits.

Drake Petrillo led the Jayhawks offense with a double for the team’s only extra-base hit. The Jayhawks smacked 10 hits to J-M’s three.

Bryce Bedilion threw 5 2/3 innings for the Rockets (2-2, 3-2), walking two and striking out one.

  • Chase Blake drove in two runs to help West Greene beat Geibel 15-0 in a five-inning game in Section 2-A.

Zach Pettit allowed three hits and struck out four for the Pioneers (2-2, 3-3). Geibel fell to 0-4, 0-2 in the section.

  • Hunter Terpack doubled and knocked in three runs to lead Fort Cherry to a 9-5 victory over Burgettstown in Section 1-AA.

Shane Smith had a double and 2 RBI and Mark Permigiani added a double for the Rangers (4-1,, 4-1).

Ryan Lounder, Danta Gianfrancisco and Hunter Ayers each had a double for the Blue Devils (1-3, 2-3).

  • Chartiers Valley pounded out 17 hits in a 15-8 victory over Trinity in Section 2 of Class 5A.

Jake Lindow homered and Steve Alauzon tripled for the Colts (3-1, 3-2). Hunter Gordon, Reed Buggeman, Cayson O’Keefe and Zack Pilossoph each hit a double. Tanner Hudak doubled for Trinity (1-4, 1-5).

  • Nick Baker smacked two doubles and drove in three runs as Monessen defeated Mapletown 16-0 in five innings of a Section 1-A game.

Monessen (2-1, 3-1), which led 13-0 after two innings, got triples from Darius Stevenson and Cory Fleming and another double from Antonio Rhome. Three pitchers held Mapletown (0-3, 0-5) without a hit.

  • Washington saw a one-run lead evaporate in the sixth inning, when Avonworth scored 14 runs to win 20-7 in a non-section game.

Jack Miller drove in 4 runs and Patrick Gannon 3 for the Antelopes (4-0, 6-0).

Alex Crawford doubled and John Griffin doubled and drove in 2 runs for the Prexies (0-3, 0-6).

  • Herb Gordon went 4-for-5 with a home run as Upper St. Clair defeated Peters Township, 7-1, in a Class 6A Section 3 game.

Tied at 1-1 entering the fifth inning, the Panthers scored four runs to pull away from PT.

Jonah Auslander also had three hits for USC (3-2, 8-2).

Colin Caven and Dax Ploskina went 2-for-3 for the Indians, who fell to 1-2 in section play and 4-5 overall.

In softball

Ella Brookman hit a game-winning single to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning as Chartiers-Houston defeated Fort Cherry, 5-4, in a Class 2A Section 3 game.

Brookman’s base hit scored Jaylese Lombardi, who reached base safely earlier in the inning on a single and advanced to second on a passed ball before scoring.

Fort Cherry (1-3, 2-4) scored four runs in the sixth inning as a result of several errors in the inning by the Bucs.

Brookman also excelled in the circle for C-H (4-1, 6-1) with 13 strikeouts and no earned runs in her seven innings for the win. Brookman only surrendered one hit.

The lone hit for the Rangers was a double from Macey Roble.

  • Monessen pitcher Dana Vatakis struck out each of the 15 batters she faced as the Greyhounds blanked California, 15-0, in a Class A Section 2 matchup in five innings.

The perfect game for Vatakis was only a portion of her dominance throughout the day. The senior went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple to drive in three runs.

Destiny Habeck went 2-for-2 with four RBI for Monessen (4-1, 5-1).

California falls to 1-3 in section and 1-4 overall.

  • Gina Ranieri and Shelbee McCann each had a single and double to lead Carmichaels past Mapletown, 12-0, in a Class A Section 2 game.

Ranieri and McCann had three RBI for the Mikes, who bounced back from two straight losses to improve to 3-2 in section and 5-4 overall.

Katherine Fox had a pair of singles for Mapletown (2-1, 4-1).

  • Brownsville used a six-run sixth inning and defeated Charleroi, 13-10, in a Class 3A Section 3 slugfest.

Facing a 13-6 deficit entering the bottom half of the seventh inning, the Cougars scored four runs but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Taylor Boyd, Sam Mavilla, Katie Reed, Sarah Kondratik and Phoebe Wentzell each had two hits for Charleroi (0-5, 0-6).

Brownsville (1-4, 2-6) pitcher Payton Hall had five strikeouts and went 2-for-5 at the plate.

  • West Greene improved to 7-1, and 4-0 in Section 2-A with an 11-0, 5-inning win over Jefferson-Morgan. Winning pitcher Madison Renner went 3-for-3 with a double, 3-run homer, and 5 RBI. She struck out 7 and allowed just two hits.

McKenna Lampe stole a base, scored, and drove in a run. Madison Lampe scored 2 runs, stole a base and had an RBI. Kaitlyn Rizor doubled, scored once, and had an RBI. Lexie Mooney was 3-for-3 with a stolen base and RBI. Mackenzie Carpenter had a triple, and run scored. Kylie Simms drove in a run, and Jersey Wise scored twice and stole a base.

Cait Dugan took the loss for J-M, striking out 2. Autumn Gustovich and Maddie Reeves had the hits for J-M.

In college softball

California University won two games via walk-offs at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rival Mercyhurst Friday.

The Vulcans won game one 2-1, with Carlee Wickstrom, who went 3-for-4, hitting a walk-off single to score Brooke Wilson. Emilee Downing threw 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball for Cal U (5-1, 11-9), and Carly Konopka was the winning pitcher after recording the last out before Wickstrom’s walk off.

Game 2 was a high-scoring affair, with Cal winning 8-7 in extra innings. In the eighth inning, Abby Sachse scored on a walk-off wild pitch to give the Vulcans a doubleheader sweep over Mercyhurst (2-6, 5-21). Wickstrom went 3-for-4 again in game two to lead the Vulcans offense. Konopka was the winning pitcher in game two, as well, throwing seven innings and allowing five runs.

  • The Waynesburg University softball team was outscored by Presidents’ Athletic Conference foe Thomas More 24-2 in a doubleheader.

In the last regular season conference matchup between the two schools before the Saints (10-0, 18-12) leave the PAC, the Yellow Jackets (3-5, 10-12) mustered only seven hits to Thomas More’s 27.

Thomas More’s Alix DeDreu threw a complete game for the 9-2 win in Game 1, allowing only two runs (one earned) and five hits. Mary Beth Odom and Kenzi Dickerson both hit home runs for the Saints.

The Saints exploded for 10 runs in the second inning of a 15-0, mercy-rule game two victory. Hannah Sprague threw four shutout innings in the win, and Dallis Knotts hit a home run and a double.

In college baseball

Seton Hill baseball outscored Cal U. 22-5 in a PSAC doubleheader at Wild Things Park. The Griffins won game one 15-3 and game two 7-2.

Seton Hill (7-7, 13-16) scored seven runs (two earned) in the first inning off Cal U (7-7, 18-13) starter Carter Krick.

Tyler Sullivan led the Griffins with four hits and four RBI, as all nine starters got a hit for Seton Hill. Perry Dellavalle threw five shutout innings, striking out five and allowing only four hits, to earn the win.

Seton Hill’s Chris Law, Mark Colella and Tom McCarthy all hit home runs in game two. Patrick Monteverde was the winning pitcher, and Nick Riggle took the loss.

In college lacrosse

Jalee Connor scored five goals to lead Thomas More to defeat Ohio River Lacrosse Conference foe Waynesburg University 10-1 in Crestview Hills, Ky.

The Yellow Jackets’ only goal came from Sarah Knapp. Thomas More (2-5, 2-5) goalkeeper Aleyna Heyman only needed to save one shot.

Waynesburg (0-6, 0-10) goalie Christina Bauer saved nine shots in the loss.
