Eagles release Worley after arrest

The Philadelphia Eagles have released cornerback Daryl Worley, hours after he was arrested.

NFL Network reported Worley was arrested Sunday morning near the team’s practice facility and police used a Taser on him after he became combative. The report also said a gun was found in Worley’s vehicle.

The team first issued a statement that it was investigating Worley’s arrest and later announced he was cut.

The Super Bowl champions traded wide receiver Torrey Smith to the Carolina Panthers for Worley in March. They also acquired defensive end Michael Bennett in a trade with Seattle. Bennett was arrested last month on a charge that he injured a paraplegic woman as he tried to get onto the field after last year’s Super Bowl to celebrate with his brother.

Worley started 25 games in the past two seasons for the Panthers.

High school baseball

Beth-Center scored three runs over the final two innings, including two in the bottom of the seventh inning, to rally for a 9-8 win over visiting Chartiers-Houston in Section 1-AA Saturday.

Beth-Center (2-2, 3-3) tied the score at 7-7 with a run in the sixth before Chartiers-Houston (3-2, 4-3) took a one-run lead by pushing a run across home plate in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, B-C’s Andy Dellapenna, who was the winning pitcher in relief, hit the third of his three doubles. Drake Zellie followed with a single and Hunter Bowen’s single drove in Dellapenna with the tying run. Andrew Bauer then had a sacrifice bunt to put two runners in scoring position. After an intentional walk loaded the bases, an infield single by David Morris drove in the game-winning run.

The Bulldogs hit five doubles in the game, including two by Bowen.

Josh Coletti, Cam Hanley and Noah Minney each had a double for Chartiers-Houston.

Women’s lacrosse

Washington & Jefferson posted its second shutout of the season, defeating visiting Earlham 18-0 in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference play Sunday.

The win improves the Presidents’ overall record to 8-3 with a 5-1 mark in the ORLC. The Quakers are 1-7 in the conference and 2-11 overall.

Caroline Kallos set a career high with 10 points on five goals and five assists. Rae LaRochelle contributed four goals and an assist. She leads the team with 43 goals on the season.

Alexis Miller tallied three goals and Graycen Vitale also had a hat trick. Goalkeeper Sara Maute faced only one shot in the shutout.

Women’s golf

California University freshman Sara Suazo finished in a tie for first place at the rain-shortened Ashland Invitational.

Suazo shot one-over par 73 in the opening round Saturday before the final round was cancelled because of bad weather. She tied for first overall with three golfers from Grand Valley State. Suazo was one of about 90 golfers from more than 15 schools to play in the event at the Country Club of Ashland.

49ers’ Foster to miss offseason program

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster won’t participate in the offseason program while he tends to legal matters related to his domestic violence charges.

The 49ers said in a joint statement Sunday from owner Jed York, coach Mike Shanahan and general manager that Foster’s future with the team will be “determined by the information revealed during the legal process.”

Foster was charged Thursday with felony domestic violence after being accused of dragging his girlfriend and punching her in the head, causing a ruptured eardrum, authorities said.

Prosecutors said the 24-year-old Foster attacked his girlfriend in February at their Los Gatos home, leaving her bruised and with an injured eardrum.

The 28-year-old woman told responding officers that Foster dragged her by her hair, physically threw her out of the house, and punched her in the head eight to 10 times.
