Major leagues: Cain is able, delivers Brewers victory

After a long night at the ballpark followed by a full day under the sun, Lorenzo Cain just wanted the game to end.
With Milwaukee winning, of course.
Cain did his part, hitting a home run off the top of the left field fence in the 11th inning that lifted the Brewers over the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 Thursday.
NL batting leader Christian Yelich went 0 for 4 with a bases-loaded walk for Milwaukee. On Wednesday night, he went 6 for 6 and hit for the cycle as the Brewers outlasted Cincinnati 13-12 in 10 innings. That’s 21 innings in less than 24 hours.
“It’s been tough on the body, this series,” Cain said. “When I hit it, I knew it was a double for sure, but this is Cincinnati, so you never know.”
The playoff-contending Brewers totaled just six hits in their latest victory. Cain hit the first pitch from Austin Brice (2-3) that hit the wall and bounced over for his 10th home run.
Arizona acquires Chris Stewart: The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired catcher Chris Stewart from the Atlanta Braves.
Friday’s move bolsters Arizona’s catching depth and gives the team a fourth player at the position.
The deal calls for the Braves to receive cash or a player to be named later.
Stewart appeared in just five games for the Braves, all early in the season. He played in 47 games with Triple-A Gwinnett, batting .219 in 156 plate appearances. Atlanta acquired Rene Rivera from the Angels on Wednesday to serve as a backup catcher.
Stewart joins catchers John Ryan Murphy, Jeff Mathis and Alex Avila.
American League
Cleveland 5, Minnesota 3: Jason Kipnis hit a three-run homer that broke a sixth-inning tie and sent the Cleveland Indians over the Minnesota Twins 5-3.
The AL Central-leading Indians opened a 14-game lead over second-place Minnesota. Cleveland is 31-11 against division opponents, and needed this win to beat the Twins 10-9 in the season series.
Kipnis’ high drive off reliever Alan Busenitz barely cleared the wall in right field and capped a four-run inning.
Mike Clevinger (10-7) allowed two unearned runs in 6 2/3 innings. The right-hander struck out nine and gave up four hits.
Sox not sure when Price will return: Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price visited a hand specialist on Thursday, and manager Alex Cora said he isn’t sure when the left-hander will make his next start.
Price was hit on his left wrist by a line drive in the third inning of Wednesday night’s 14-6 win against Miami at Fenway Park. Cora said Price is OK, but he doesn’t know if he’ll take his turn in the rotation next week in Atlanta.
“We’ll see how he feels the next few days and then we’ll go from there,” Cora said.
Price, who turned 33 Sunday, stayed behind in Boston to see the doctor while the rest of the team hit the road for the opener of a four-game series against the White Sox. But Cora said Price was on his way to Chicago.
Price is 14-6 with a 3.60 ERA in his first 26 starts for the AL East-leading Red Sox.
Ohtani to pitch: Shohei Ohtani is a two-way player again.
Angels manager Mike Scioscia announced the Japanese rookie sensation will start on the mound for Los Angeles Sunday night for the first time since spraining the ulnar collateral ligament in his right pitching elbow nearly three months ago.
Ohtani will make his return on national television against the defending World Series champion Houston Astros. Ohtani has thrown up to 50 pitches in the bullpen as he attempts to work back from the UCL injury that many feared might require Tommy John surgery and keep him out of action through the 2019 season. He’ll be on a limited pitch count.
