High school football roundup: Burgettstown wins with 5-minute flurry in 4th quarter

Burgettstown erupted for 20 fourth-quarter points to earn a 20-6 victory over Seton-La Salle in a Class AA Three Rivers Conference game Friday night played at Peters Township High School.

Jake Lounder returned an interception nine yards to tie the game and scored on a 1-yard run four minutes later to give Burgettstown the lead.

Another interception set up Shane Kemper’s 3-yard scoring run, Burgettstown’s third TD in a 5-minute span of the fourth quarter.

Lounder finished with 100 yards on 24 carries.

Max Schipani threw a 49-yard TD pass to James Yanders give Seton-La Salle a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Schipani completed 10 of 21 for 125 yards.

Chartiers-Houston 43, Jefferson-Morgan 12

Chartiers-Houston snapped a 12-game losing streak by erupting for 37 second-half points and drubbing Jefferson-Morgan, 43-12, in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game at Parker Field.

Six different players scored for the Bucs (1-0, 1-1) and the defense produced a safety. Tyler Blumen, Seth Dunn, Jimmy Sadler, Sam Dewalt and Jake Piatt each scored for the Bucs in the second half. Nate Cavallo caught a 45-yard pass from Robby Ward in the second quarter.

Jacob Broadwater threw for one touchdown and ran for another for J-M (0-1, 0-2). Jonathan Wolfe had 16 rushes for 101 yards.

Fort Cherry 21, Carlynton 14, OT

Zach Vincenti scored on a 10-yard touchdown run on Fort Cherry’s first play of the second overtime as the Rangers outlasted visiting Carlynton, 21-14.

The game was a defensive struggle and went to overtime tied at 7-7. Carlynton (1-1) took a 14-7 lead in the first overtime when Will McClendon caught a 10-yard TD pass. McClendon had opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 43-yard TD run. McClendon was the game’s leading rusher with 89 yards.

Fort Cherry needed one play in overtime to tie the score at 14-14 as Vincenti scored on a 10-yard scamper. Vincenti finished with 72 rushing yards.

Carlynton turned the ball over on downs in the second overtime and Vincenti’s second score of OT was the game-winner.

Fort Cherry tied the score at 7-7 in the third quarter when Noah Babirad caught a 22-yard scoring pass from Brady Whalen.

Beth-Center 44, Carmichaels 8

Bailey Lincoski had three touchdown runs to pace Beth-Center to a 44-8 victory over Carmichaels in a Class AA Interstate Conference game.

Lincoski scored on runs of 1, 25 and 46 for the Bulldogs (1-0, 2-0) in a first-half run that helped make it 29-0.

Devin Dingle put the game into the Mercy Rule with an 85-yard kickoff return to start the second half. Colby Kuhns threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to J.J. Green in the third quarter.

Fundy rushed for 104 yards on 10 carries and Lincoski had 102 on six. Lincoski completed 5 of 7 passes for 107 yards.

Michael Stewart scored for Carmichaels on an 82-yard run in the fourth quarter.

West Greene 41, Bentworth 6

Ben Jackson rushed for 227 yards and four touchdowns as West Greene pulled away in the second half to defeat Bentworth 41-6 in the Tri-County South Conference opener.

West Greene (1-0, 1-1) used TD runs of 52 and four yards by Jackson in the first quarter to forge a 14-0 lead. Bentworth made it 14-6 late in the first quarter when Shawn Dziak threw a 23-yard TD pass to Dylan Farkas.

West Greene then scored the game’s final 27 points, all before the fourth quarter. Jackson, who carried 21 times, scored on runs of 23 and 30 yards, Kolin Walker had a 12-yard TD run and Corey Wise rambled 23 yards for the game’s final score.

Dziak completed 16 of 32 passes for 129 yards and one touchdown. He was intercepted twice.

West Greene quarterback Gavin Scott was 6 of 12 for 106 yards.

Greensburg Salem 41, Trinity 13

Trent Patrick scored on two long runs and threw for a third score as Greensburg Salem ran past Trinity, 41-13, in a Class 4A Big 8 Conference game.

Patrick scored on runs of 26 and 39 yards and hit Tyler Williams with a 37-yard TD pass to open the scoring.

Greensburg Salem outscored Trinity, 27-13 in the second half.

Marquese Lacks caught a 21-yard pass from Kaden Kolson and Michah Finley ran 19 yards for the Hillers scores. Trinity missed two scoring opportunities in the first half from inside the GS 5-yard line.

Finley rushed for 51 yards, Peyton Thompson 49 and Kolson 35. Patrick completed 7 of 10 passes for 130 yards and 3 TDs.

Mt. Lebanon 43, Canon-McMillan 38

Mt. Lebanon scored 36 second-half points to pull away for a 43-29 victory over visiting Canon-McMillan in a Class 6A Quad County Conference game.

The game was tied 7-7 at halftime and Mt. Lebanon (1-0, 1-1) forged a 20-7 lead in the third quarter on a 74-yard run by Drew Vaughn and a 41-yard TD pass from Seth Morgan to Tim Walters.

Canon-McMillan (0-1, 0-1) was bale to close to within 30-22 in the fourth quarter when Blake Joseph caught an 8-yard TD pass from Jon Quinque.

Quinque was 15 of 28 for 210 yards and two scores.

Drew Engel caught eight passes for 115 yards for C-M. Litt Alred caught a touchdown pass.

South Fayette 35, Beaver 7

One week after having a 57-game regular-season wining streak snapped, South Fayette began another.

Jamie Diven threw three first quarter touchdowns during a 35-7 rout of Beaver in a Northwest 8 Conference game.

Diven had five touchdown passes before halftime, putting the Mercy Rule into affect for the televised game. Five different receivers caught TD passes. He finished with 10 of 13 completions for 180 yards and the five TDs. Eight different receivers had receptions with Mike Trimbur snagging four for 47 yards and a score. Andrew Franklin rushed for 67 yards on 13 carries.

Aliquippa 55, Waynesburg 0

A.J. Devonshire returned three punts for touchdowns to help Aliquippa rout Waynesburg, 55-0, in a Class 3A Tri-County West Conference game.

Devonshire’s returns were from 64, 51 and 62 yards and he scored on a 28-yard run, all in the first half for the Quips (1-0, 2-0). Avante McKenzie scored on runs of 2 and 28 yards.

Waynesburg fell to 0-1 and 1-1.

Monessen upset host California 30-20 in a Tri-County South Conference opener and Thomas Jefferson rolled over Ringgold 62-0 in the Big Eight Conference. No game details were made availble to the Observer-Reporter.
