Mon Valley Hospital’s Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Program received re-accreditation by Pittsburgh-based Corazon, a national leader in cardiovascular services.
PCI, formerly known as coronary angioplasty, is a nonsurgical procedure that improves blood flow to the heart through cardiac catheterization.
During the procedure, a catheter is used to place a small stent to topen blood vessels in the heart that have been narrowed by plaque buildup.
In order to acheive reaccreditation, Mon Valley Hospital had to meet or exceed requirements establshed by the state Departmant of Health, including providing 24-hour coverage for PCI emergencies.
“The recertification of the cardiac cath lab at MVH reaffirms the commitment and capacity of our facility to provide the highest standard of care for the citizens of the Mon Valley,” said Dr. Stephen A. Bowser, a cardiologist at Mon Valley. “Through strong collaboration with pre-hospital services, emergench room pphysicians and nurses, andour experienced cath lab staff and interventional cardiologists, we are able to provide timely and state-of-the-art treatment for heart attack patients, thereby optimizin patient outcomes.”
Corazon wrote that Monongahela Valley Hospital has demonstrated through their accreditation survey that they are committed to providing the highest quality level of care to their patient community.
“Their dedication, hard work and exceptional leadership have afforded this opportunity in engaging their hospital team, enhancing their cardiac service line, thus allowing them to excel through achieving this accreditation,” the company said in a written statement.
The reaccreditation to the PCI Program is the latest distinction for MVH’s coronary capabilities. Earlier this year, the hospital was named “One of America’s 100 Top Hospitals for Coronary Intervention” by Healthgrades and a “Best Hospital in Heart Failure” by U.S. News & World Report.
Mon Valley also earned the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines Heart Failure: Silver Quality Achievement Award and its Mission: Lifetime Silver Receiving Quality Achievement Award.
