Senior forward Alex Williamson scored 41 points and became Chartiers-Houston’s all-time basketball scoring leader as the defending WPIAL champion Bucs rolled to a 71-23 victory Thursday over visiting Shenango in Section 1-AA.
Williamson, a Temple recruit, scored 25 points in the first half to tie the school record of 1,915 points set by Emily Briggs from 1999-2003. Williamson broke the record early in the third quarter and now has 1,931 points.
The win keeps Chartiers-Houston (11-1, 14-5) tied for first place in the section with OLSH. Shenango (5-6, 7-11) had its two-game winning streak snapped.
Madison Simpson had a fine game for C-H, scoring 14 points, as the Bucs forged leads of 20-4 after one quarter and 41-9 at halftime. Williamson had 11 rebounds to go with her big point-producing night.
West Greene 75, Geibel 12: Madison Lampe tossed in 16 points and surpassed 1,000 points in her career during West Greene’s 75-12 victory over Geibel in a Section 2-A game in Rogersville.
Lampe, a junior, needed 14 points coming into the game and now has 1,002. She is the seventh female in the program’s history to reach this milestone and moves into sixth place on the scoring list. Her twin sister McKenna accomplished the feat earlier in the season.
“They almost don’t take days off,” said West Greene head coach Jordan Watson. “Work ethic sets them apart. As freshmen, they were athletes. Now they are basketball players. They are the first players from the same team and same class at our school to reach 1,00 points. They are the first set of sisters at the school to accomplish this.”
Kaitlyn Rizor and McKenna Lampe each scored 15 points for WG (9-0, 17-1).
Geibel fell to 7-10, including 5-4 in the section.
Bethel Park 50, Canon-McMillan 47: Senior guard Kamryn Lach made a tiebreaking three-pointer with 20 seconds remaining and Bethel Park pulled out a 50-47 Class 6A Section 3 victory over visiting Canon-McMillan.
Canon-McMillan (2-7, 10-8) had a chance to force overtime but missed a desperation three-pointer in the closing seconds.
The game was close throughout as Bethel Park erased a six-point deficit at the end of the first quarter and led 24-23 at halftime. The Black Hawks led 42-38 after the third quarter.
Tamara Mathis scored a game-high 23 points for the Big Macs and Izzy Allen had another double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Bethel Park (7-2, 13-5) was led by Madelyn Dziezgowski with 15 points. Lach finished with 10 points, as did Maria Cerro.
Trinity 70, Uniontown 30: It’s a perfect 10 for Trinity.
The Hillers won their 10th consecutive game, rolling over Uniontown 70-30 in a Class 5A Section 3 game on Senior Night at Hiller Hall.
The win clinches at least a share of the section championship for the Hillers (11-0, 17-3). Trinity has one section game remaining, Thursday at second-place Ringgold.
Guard Alayna Cappelli paced Trinity with a game-high 19 points and moved to within 10 points of 1,000 for her career. Jayme Britton followed with 15 points and Riley DeRubbo had 12.
Mya Murray led Uniontown (4-6, 7-10) with 11 points.
Avella 43, Jefferson-Morgan 32: Avella played strong defense in the first half and used a big offensive game from Bailey Lis to win at Jefferson-Morgan, 43-32, in Section 2-A.
Lis scored a game-high 22 points as Avella (6-3, 11-7) ran its winning streak to five games. The Eagles held Jefferson-Morgan (1-8, 2-16) to 10 first-half points as Avella forged a 10-point lead.
Autumn Gustovich was J-M’s leading scorer with 14 points.
Beth-Center 48, Serra 37: Beth-Center went on an 11-3 run in the third quarter to secure a 48-37 victory from Serra in a Section 3-AA game in Fredericktown.
Kinlee Whited scored 24 points and sank 11 of 14 free throws in the second half for Beth-Center (7-5, 11-7), which was tied with Serra, 17-17, at halftime.
Serra was sparked by Gigi Mele-Madigan’s 13 points.
Burgettstown 62, New Brighton 29: Malia Castellino and Addy Valdez combined for 25 points as Burgettstown downed New Brighton, 62-29, in a Section 1-AA game.
Castellino scored 13 points and Valdez had a career-high 12 for the Blue Devils (4-8, 8-12), who led 26-8 at halftime
Sidney Cook scored a game-high 22 points for New Brighton (1-10, 2-15).
Waynesburg 38, McGuffey 31: A 15-4 run in the fourth quarter by Waynesburg cemented a 38-31 victory over McGuffey in a Section 2 game in Class 3A in Claysville.
Shay Echegaray led Waynesburg (2-8, 5-14) with 12 points. The Raiders trailed after three quarters, 27-23.
Keira Nicolella tossed in 9 points for the Highlanders (1-9, 4-15), who have lost four straight.
Washington 66, Fort Cherry 36: A strong finish resulted in a 66-36 victory for Washington over Fort Cherry in a Section 1-AA game.
The win puts the Prexies (8-4, 11-6) in third place in the section behind OLSH and Chartiers-Houston. Fort Cherry (7-5, 12-7) slipped into fourth place.
Randi Thomas scored 16 points, Carley Allen 15 and Torri Finley 12 for the Prexies, who outscored FC, 40-15, in the second half.
McKenzie Faure’s 10 points led the visiting Rangers.
California 30, Carmichaels 17: California held visiting Carmichaels to only one point in both the first and last quarters and that was enough to send the Trojans to a 30-17 victory in Section 3-AA.
The win keeps California’s section hopes alive as the second-place Trojans improve to 9-3 in the section and 12-5 overall. The Trojans forged a 9-1 lead after one quarter and were leading 23-16 after three quarters. Cal then again held Carmichaels (2-10, 5-14) to one point in the fourth quarter and pulled away for the victory.
California’s Love Porter was the only player in the game to score in double figures as she tallied 10 points. Kristina Aeschbacher scored seven points for Carmichaels.
Belle Vernon 41, Mt. Pleasant 27: Lindsay Steeber scored 11 points and Belle Vernon ran its winning streak to eight games with a 41-27 victory over Mt. Pleasant on the Leopards’ Senior Night.
Belle Vernon (11-1, 16-4), which kept its Section 3-AAAA title hopes alive, had to rally in the second half after falling behind 18-16 at halftime. The Leopards outscored Mt. Pleasant 13-2 in the pivotal third quarter and pulled away over the final eight minutes.
Steeber was the only Belle Vernon player to score in double figures. Chloe Jaworski led Mt. Pleasant (3-9, 5-13) with 10 points.
Belle Vernon has held five of its last six opponents to fewer than 38 points.
In other games: Ringgold remain in the hunt for a share of the Class 5A Section 3 title by defeating Laurel Highlands 61-40. The Rams can share the title with Trinity by winning next week at Uniontown and at home over the Hillers. In Section 3-AA, Greensburg Central Catholic was a 57-20 winner over Bentworth.

Carmichaels 69, Avella 40: Carmichaels erupted for 42 second-half points and pulled away for a 69-40 victory over Avella in a non-section game on the Eagles’ home court.
The win moved Carmichaels back to the .500 mark at 9-9. The Mikes led by only 27-24 at halftime before putting up 24 points in the pivotal third quarter that ended with Carmichaels holding a commanding 51-31 lead.
Matt Barrish led a a balanced Carmichaels attack with 17 points. He scored 15 of those points in the first half. Al Cree followed with 15 points and Dylan Wilson had 12.
Cam Lawrence led Avella (2-14) with 12 points.
California 43, West Greene 37: Austin Grillo scored 17 points and California made a 6-point halftime lead stand for a 43-37 victory over West Greene in a non-section game in Rogersville.
Dru Miller chipped in with 12 points for California (10-8), which had a 23-17 lead at halftime.
Nathan Brudnock’s 18 points powered West Greene (6-12).
Bentworth 63, Mapletown 17: Three players scored in double figures as Bentworth downed Mapletown, 63-17, in a non-section game in Bentleyville.
Steven Harner led Bentworth (11-6) with 19 points; Ray Logan scored 12 points and Devond West had 10 points to go with 8 rebounds. Levi Jordan had a game-high 10 rebounds.
Ryan Carter scored 6 points for the Maples (0-19).
