What percent of New Year’s resolutions are achieved?
According to the Huffington Post, only around 8 percent of people keep their News Year’s resolutions going. Many people make resolutions related to getting/staying fit, losing weight and eating healthier; however, approximately 80 percent of people give up on their goals by the second week of February. If you remain consistent through February, you’re more likely to achieve your resolution, since habits take about 21 days to form, but a little over two months to become automatic.
How do I achieve my resolution?
One thing you can do to help achieve your resolution is to come up with a plan. This may seem obvious, but many people just say they want to achieve something without thinking ahead. When coming up with the plan you should be realistic about the timeframe and the goal you want to achieve. Set smaller goals that guide you to the ultimate goal. Incremental challenges will help you stay motivated, so set that goal and reward yourself when you reach it! For example, losing 50 pounds this year is a big goal, and you may get discouraged if you’ve only lost five pounds and it’s been three months! However, if you’ve been consistent – maybe you’ve lost five inches, walking and/or running a mile is way easier, and you’ve been eating more vegetables – those are all fantastic achievements! Also, another major factor in achieving your resolution is to ask for help if you need it. So, plan, be realistic, commit to your resolution and become a new you this year.
