A medical practice with a history dating back to 1984 recently opened its doors to a new office in Belle Vernon.

The Orthopedic Group is now welcoming visitors to its new location at 800 Plaza Drive, Suite 400 – the former Willow Room. The office officially opened on Dec. 12.

“The practice was founded by Dr. Scott Baron in November 1984,” says Carolyn Shumaker, practice administrator. “At the time, I was working out of his house for a few months while he was trying to build the practice. We only had two other employees! We had two patient facilities in the areas of Charleroi and Jefferson, and Dr. Baron, at the time, performed general orthopedics, but his passion was, and still is, total joint replacements and arthroscopy.”

There are eight physicians available to see patients, all of whom have a wide variety of specialties to serve the diverse needs of the population. They are:

Shumaker says that the practice expanded its locations to Belle Vernon because the area seems to be the catchment area for the patients. “We moved here seven years ago from the Jefferson area, and it has proven to be a convenient location for our patients, easily accessible, and a beautiful building with state-of-the-art equipment.”

This practice also will feature advanced technology, as well, with two new digital X-ray units, from which patient X-rays can be taken and viewed in a matter of seconds.

“We hope to expand our patient base,” Shumaker says. “Our patient volume here in Belle Vernon is generally full, and since we have eight physicians, three of whom can work in this location at the same time, our patients will be able to be seen more efficiently. The benefit is that we not only have orthopedists caring for the community, but The Orthopedic Group is also comprised of a podiatrist, physical medicine physicians and a spine surgeon.”

Shumaker says she hopes to see enthusiasm from all patients, old and new, in the new office. n
