Duquesne wins again, off to best start in 8 years

Rene Castro-Caneddy scored 10 of his 21 points in a breakaway run to open the second half as Duquesne defeated Fordham 64-41 Saturday, marking its best start since the 2008-09 season.
Duquesne (3-0 Atlantic 10, 12-4) led 33-26 at the break and opened the second half on a 17-0 run with Castro-Caneddy scoring 10, including a pair of 3-pointers, as the Dukes boosted the lead to 50-26 in about seven minutes.
Castro-Caneddy made 8 of 10 from the floor, 3 of 5 from distance. Tarin Smith added 12 points with six assists as Duquesne has won 10 of its last 11 and surpassed its win total from last season (10-22).
Fordham (1-2, 6-9) shot 32 percent (16 of 50) and its 41 points is the lowest in the series.
Fordham scoring leader Will Tavares played for four minutes, went 0-for-1 with one point, ending a string of 14 games in double figures. Prokop Slanina led with 12 points.
Robert Morris 88, LIU Brooklyn 79: Matty McDonnell had nine of his 15 points in the final minutes as Robert Morris had a late run to beat LIU Brooklyn 88-79 and remain undefeated in Northeast Conference play.
The Colonials had lost three straight prior to entering conference action.
Robert Morris started the second period on a 9-3 run to go ahead 47-41 at the 17:02 mark. The teams swapped the lead until the Colonials took it for good 63-62, following a Koby Thomas layup with 8:52 left. Leondre Washington added a jumper and a trey later for a 70-64 lead as Robert Morris gradually pulled away for the win.
Dachon Burke had 20 points to lead five Robert Morris players in double figures. Thomas added 17 with seven rebounds, Washington totaled 12 points and Jon Williams chipped in 11.
Raiquan Clark was 9 of 13 from the floor for 23 points to lead the Blackbirds (1-3, 6-11).
