Another injury at LB for Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars backup linebacker Blair Brown sprained his left ankle during practice Wednesday, a potentially big loss considering starters Telvin Smith and Paul Posluszny already were dealing with injuries.

Brown was wearing a walking boot and using crutches to get around the locker room, saying he “landed on it wrong” during a drill.

Posluszny and Smith (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.

Wild Things get shortstop in trade

The Washington Wild Things have acquired shortstop Brett Marr from the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association. Marr is the player ot be named in the trade from 2017 that sent relief pitcher Andrew Woeck to Sioux Falls.

Marr was a teammates with newly signed Wild Things infielder Louis Mele with the Canaries, after a stellar four-year career at Division II Rockhurst University. With the Hawks, Marr had a career batting average of .343, with 98 RBI, 46 extra-base hits and nine home runs.

A Warrensburg, Mo., native, Marr had a .964 fielding percentage and received the Division II National Gold Glove Award after his junior season.

Marr played in 59 games as a rookie with Sioux Falls last summer and had a .225 batting average with two home runs. He committed only seven errors in more than 250 chances and was named , Sioux Falls’ Defensive Player of the Year.

“We targeted our middle infield as an area to address for 2018. Adding Brett will hopefully stabilize our shortstop position. Defensively, he was noted as one of the best in the country in college and earned significant praise during his time with Sioux Falls,” said Wild Things general manager Steve Zavacky. “We feel we can tap into his aggressiveness offensively, but he has shown a knack for being a persistent table setter and consistently producing quality at-bats.”

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired winger Anthony Duclair from the Arizona Coyotes in a four-player trade Wednesday.

Chicago also got defenseman Adam Clendening in the move that seeks to shake up a perennial contender fighting to maintain a playoff position. The NHL-worst Coyotes received winger Richard Panik and minor leaguer Laurent Dauphin.

In the NBA

Harrison Barnes had 25 points and 11 rebounds, Yogi Ferrell made seven 3-pointers and scored 22 points and the Dallas Mavericks fended off fatigue to beat a fresh Charlotte Hornets team 115-111 Wednesday night.

Dirk Nowitzki added 19 points for the Mavericks, and Dennis Smith Jr. had 15.

In college basketball

Josh Okogie scored 17 points and Georgia Tech snapped Notre Dame’s five-game winning streak, beating the Fighting Irish 60-53 Wednesday night in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Yellow Jackets (9-7, 2-1) pushed out to a 10-point halftime lead and held off depleted Notre Dame (13-4, 3-1) the rest of the way for their second straight conference victory. The Irish were missing two of their top players, preseason All-America selection Bonzie Colson and Matt Farrell.
