AG edges J-M in

nonsection dual meet

Tim Wallace’s pin at 195 sealed a 36-33 victory over Jefferson-Morgan in a nonsection dual meet competed in front of the J-M students Friday afternoon.

Hunter Milligan (145) had a pin for the Colonials.

Gavin Teasdale, a three-time PIAA champion, pinned Harley Constable in 1:40 at 126 pounds. Teasdale moved his career record to 141-1. He needs 16 more wins to set the Jefferson-Morgan career victory mark. Brendan Howard holds it now at 156.

Nate Bilonick (152) had a pin for the Rockets (5-3).

Waynesburg wrestlers win

Jake Evans’ pin at heavyweight gave Waynesburg a 24-19 win over Thomas in a PAC dual meet Friday.

The Saints fell to 7-3 in dual matches, including a 1-1 mark in the PAC. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improved to 9-7 and 2-0 in the PAC.

Caleb Baxter also had a win for Waynesburg. Jimmy Traub won by fall for Thomas More.

Penguins top

Kings Thursday

Patric Hornqvist scored two goals and Evgeni Malkin got the tiebreaking goal early in the third period of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ fifth win in six games, 3-1 over the slumping Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night.

Casey DeSmith stopped 28 shots to earn his first NHL victory in his third career appearance for Pittsburgh. Malkin had a goal and an assist as the Penguins bounced back from a loss in Anaheim one night earlier with a solid effort at Staples Center in the second stop of the back-to-back Stanley Cup champs’ three-game California trip.

Hornqvist scored in the opening minute and got another during a five-minute power play midway through the third after Dustin Brown got a game misconduct penalty for sending a kneeling Justin Schultz into the boards near the Kings’ bench. Schultz stayed down for a long moment before skating off gingerly.

Adrian Kempe scored and Jonathan Quick made 28 saves for the Kings, who have lost five straight for the first time this season.

Los Angeles wasted a chance to move from fourth place to second in the Pacific Division with its fifth loss in a row at home since Christmas. The Kings even took two minor penalties while trailing in the final minutes, eliciting boos from the sellout crowd.

DeSmith was solid in his first game since Dec. 9 for the Penguins, although the Kings didn’t test him strenuously. The AHL All-Star selection is filling in as Tristan Jarry’s backup while Matt Murray is on indefinite leave after his father’s death.

Minor league pitcher suspended

Baltimore pitcher Tucker Baca has been suspended for the first 60 games of the season under baseball’s minor league drug program following a positive drug test for a performance-enhancing substance.

Pittsburgh right-hander Montana Durapau and Atlanta left-hander Gabriel Noguera each has been suspended for the first 50 games following second positive tests for drugs of abuse, the commissioner’s office said Friday.

Baca, who is with the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Orioles, tested positive for Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, sold as Oral Turinabol. That substance was used by many East German athletes in the 1970s and 1980s. The 21-year-old was selected in the 12th round last year from Arizona State and had a 4.50 ERA in 13 relief appearances. His suspension is 60 games instead of 80 because he is in a short-season league.

Durapau, 25, was 3-2 with a 2.04 ERA in 42 games at Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis. Noguera, 21, was 2-2 with a 1.58 ERA in nine starts and five relief appearances for the Dominican Summer League Braves and the Gulf Coast League Braves.
