As far as Javier Baez is concerned, no deficit is too big for the Chicago Cubs to overcome.

Baez and his teammates showed why he feels that way on Saturday.

Baez homered and had four hits – including a game-tying infield single in the eighth – and the Cubs rallied from a five-run deficit for an 8-7 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

Anthony Rizzo’s RBI groundout capped a four-run eighth inning for Chicago, which has come from behind in each of its last eight wins.

“That’s what we do,” Baez said. “We fight to the end. We’ve been coming back since 2016.”

Eugenio Suarez homered and Billy Hamilton added three hits and three stolen bases for Cincinnati, which had its five-game winning streak against the Cubs snapped.

Randy Rosario (4-0) allowed two hits in 2 1/3 innings to get the win. Brandon Morrow worked the ninth for his 20th save.

The Reds took a 7-4 lead into the eighth, but reliever Amir Garrett – who retired three straight batters in the seventh – walked Victor Caratini and Addison Russell to start the inning. Pinch hitter David Bote then singled to load the bases.

St. Louis 3, San Francisco 2: Carlos Martinez pitched seven effective innings for his third consecutive win and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the San Francisco Giants 3-2.

Martinez allowed one run on six hits with three strikeouts and did not walk a batter for the third time this season. The right-hander also drove in the Cardinals’ first run with an RBI double in the third.

Atlanta 5, Milwaukee 1: Anibal Sanchez pitched effectively into the seventh and Freddie Freeman added three hits, lifting the slumping Atlanta Braves to a 5-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Sanchez (4-2) retired 19 in a row at one point to help snap Atlanta’s season high four-game skid. He exited with two outs in the seventh after being hit by a liner on his right hip.

Colorado 5, Seattle 1: Noel Cuevas hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning among his three hits to lead the Colorado Rockies to a 5-1 win against the Seattle Mariners.

Carlos Gonzalez added a double and a run-scoring single for the Rockies, who have won five in a row.

Tampa Bay 3, N.Y. Mets 0: Blake Snell blanked the Mets over a career-high-tying 7 1/3 innings, Wilson Ramos drove in a pair of runs and Tampa Bay downed New York 3-0.

A late afternoon start under clear blue skies featured two young left-handers at the top of their game in recent weeks, both successfully dodging a slew of baserunners early.

Houston 12, Chicago White Sox 6: Yuli Gurriel and Alex Bregman each homered and Charlie Morton won his 11th as the Houston Astros beat the Chicago Wihite Sox 12-6 for their fifth straight win.

Morton (11-2) allowed five runs and five hits with eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. The right-hander has won four of his last five starts.

N.Y. Yankees 8, Toronto 5: Luis Severino pitched five innings to earn his major league-leading 14th win, Brett Gardner and Aaron Judge each hit solo home runs, and the New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-5.

Severino (14-2) won his fifth straight start, allowing three runs and five hits. Two of the hits were home runs, marking the first time this season that Severino has allowed more than one homer in a game.

Minnesota 5, Baltimore 4: Kyle Gibson recovered from a rough start to throw seven innings, and Max Kepler homered in his second straight game to lead Minnesota past Baltimore 5-4.

Bobby Wilson went 2-for-3 with three RBI for the Twins, who won their third in a row.
