Enyel De Los Santos won his major league debut and the Philadelphia Phillies got home runs from Maikel Franco and Odubel Herrera in a 7-3 victory over the New York Mets.

Franco drove in four runs as the Phillies, who began the day tied with Atlanta atop the NL East, won for the 10th time in 13 games. Nick Williams had three hits and two RBIs, and Rhys Hoskins also got three hits.

De Los Santos allowed three runs and five hits over 61/3 effective innings. The 22-year-old right-hander was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, where he was 9-3 with a 1.89 ERA in 16 starts, and matched against another starter making his big league debut in Drew Gagnon of the Mets.

Staked to an early lead and armed with an unorthodox and deceptive slingshot delivery that Philadelphia manager Gabe Kapler dubbed a “crossfire,” De Los Santos (1-0) cruised for most of the night against a scuffling Mets lineup that has managed only eight runs over its last five games.

De Los Santos walked three and struck out six. He threw 94 pitches, 58 for strikes.

Nationals closer to miss All-Star Game: The Washington Nationals placed All-Star closer Sean Doolittle on the 10-day disabled list with left toe inflammation, optioned right-handed pitcher Jefry Rodriguez to Triple-A Syracuse and recalled right-handed pitchers Wander Suero and Austin Voth from Syracuse Tuesday.

Doolittle, 31, hasn’t pitched since July 6. The following day, he tripped over a pitching mound and first experienced discomfort in his left toe.

The left-hander has a 1.45 ERA and has converted 22 of 23 save opportunities this season. He will not pitch in the 2018 MLB All-Star Game, which is being held at Nationals Park July 17.

Kelvin Herrera will close games while Doolittle is out. He had 14 saves with the Kansas City Royals before he was traded to Washington on June 19.

Voth is scheduled to start Saturday against the New York Mets. Rodriguez was 0-1 with a 6.86 ERA in five appearances with the Nationals.

American League

Boston 8, Texas 4: Andrew Benintendi bolstered his All-Star credentials with a pair of doubles and two RBIs in his final game before fan votes are tallied, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers 8-4 to extend their winning streak to eight games.

Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a pair of RBI doubles and Xander Bogaerts hit a two-run triple as Boston scored five runs in the third and won for the 15th time in 18 games.

Matt Barnes (3-2) got the win with one inning of relief, striking out the side in the seventh after the Rangers had pulled within 6-4 with two runs in the sixth. He was the fourth of five relievers the Red Sox rode to another victory and improve on the best record in the majors.

Rougned Odor homered and Joey Gallo hit a two-run double for the Rangers, who have lost four of five.

Yovani Gallardo (3-1) made it through the first two innings without allowing a baserunner, but ran into trouble in the third.

Tampa Bay 5, Detroit 2: Wilson Ramos hit a three-run homer, five Tampa Bay pitchers combined on a five-hitter and the Rays beat the Detroit Tigers 5-2.

The Rays (47-44) moved three games above .500 for the first time since Aug. 6 last year after posting their 13th win in the last 14 home games.

Tampa Bay lost its bid for a third shutout in four games when the Tigers scored twice in the ninth. After blanking the Mets in New York on Saturday and Sunday, the Rays outslugged the Tigers 10-9 in 10 innings Monday night.

Ramos, elected to start at catcher for the American League in next week’s All-Star Game, keyed a five-run third inning when he connected off Matthew Boyd (4-8) for his 14th homer. That tied John Flaherty (1999) for the most in a season by a Tampa Bay catcher.

Indians lose Chisenhall, Tomlin: The Cleveland Indians will be without two of their most experienced playoff performers for an extended period.

Right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall will miss 8-10 weeks with a strained left calf muscle, and right-hander Josh Tomlin was placed on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring Tuesday.

Chisenhall suffered a grade 3 strain while warming up before a July 2 game in Kansas City. Manager Terry Francona said he expected the 29-year-old to miss “significant time,” which was confirmed by a second medical opinion.

Both were members of Cleveland’s last three postseason teams, including its 2016 squad that lost the World Series in seven games to the Chicago Cubs.

The Indians lead the AL Central by 81/2 games and appear headed to a third straight division title, but the injuries could change their approach with the July 31 trade deadline looming.
