McKenna Lampe went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI as West Greene defeated Perry, Ohio, 11-4, in its opening game Friday at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Pioneers were able to support starting pitcher Jade Renner with run support early, scoring seven runs in the first four innings. Much of that came from Lampe, who scored each of the four times she reached base.

West Greene (1-0, 3-1) was also powered by Madison Renner’s three-hit performance, including two doubles. Mackenzie Carpenter went 3-for-4.

In Game 2, against Liverpool, N.Y., the Pioneers lost their first game of the season, 9-1.

The Warriors turned the tables on West Greene’s typical formula for winning, scoring runs in the early innings. Liverpool scored four runs in the first and three more in the third inning to take a 7-0 lead.

Lexi Mooney had a triple for the Pioneers.

Liverpool (1-1) used a pair of triples and a home run from Alicia Nash to build a lead for starting pitcher Jenna Willie, who scattered the Pioneers’ seven hits while striking out five.

In college baseball

Washington & Jefferson began its post-Florida trip portion of the season Friday with a 7-0 victory over Thomas More to start a weekend Presidents’ Athletic Conference series.

The win improves the Presidents’ record to 9-8 and is their second shutout of the year. The teams will return to the field noon today for a doubleheader.

W&J starting pitcher Ben Marsico improved his record to 1-1 with eight shutout innings. James Trainor pitched the final inning as the duo combined on a four-hitter.

The Presidents scored twice in both the second and fifth inning and tacked on three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Leadoff hitter Mullen Socha drove in two runs and scored another. Justin Griffin had a two-run double and Ryan Sciullo went 4-for-4 with one run and an RBI.

In the NBA

Rookie Lauri Markkanen and Sean Kilpatrick each scored 13 points, rookie Ryan Arcidiacono had all of his eight points in the fourth quarter, and the Chicago Bulls snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 90-82 victory over the Orlando Magic Friday night.

Arcidiacono’s 3-pointer started a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter for the Bulls, who took an 80-71 lead and held on to complete a four-game season sweep of the Magic.

  • Ben Simmons had a triple-double in three quarters, Ersan Ilyasova scored 21 points and the Philadelphia 76ers won their ninth straight game with a 101-91 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.

In the NHL

Justin Faulk scored midway through the second period, and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Washington Capitals 4-1 Friday night to stay in the playoff race.

The Hurricanes, who haven’t made the playoffs for the last eight years, have won four of five. Carolina, which has four games remaining, remains a long shot to qualify for the postseason.

Metropolitan Division-leading Washington had won five in a row. Michal Kempny scored his first goal with the Capitals after he was acquired in a February trade with Chicago.

  • Auston Matthews scored the tiebreaking goal with just under four minutes remaining to lift the playoff-bound Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-4 victory over the New York Islanders.

Mitch Marner and Nazem Kadri each had a goal and an assist, and Nikita Zaitsev and James van Riemsdyk also scored for Toronto. Frederik Andersen stopped 29 shots to help the Maple Leafs win for the eighth time in 10 games and extend a franchise record with their 47th win.
