BASEBALL
Nolan Thompson pitched four scoreless innings, Colin Caven drove in four runs and Kyle Comini went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot to lift Peters Township over Trinity in six innings, 12-2, in a non-section game Tuesday night.
Six of the first seven hitters in the lineup for the Indians had a multi-hit game. Every player to get an at-bat for Peters Township (10-9) recorded a hit, giving Thompson, the Indians starter, plenty of run support. Thompson struck out seven and earned the victory.
Trinity fell to 5-9 overall.
• Brownsville scored a pair of runs in the 10th inning to defeat California, 8-6, in non-section battle between teams destined for the WPIAL playoffs.
Derrick Hammitt had a double and drove in two runs for California (9-7). Payton Conte, Nathan Zemany and Jacob Piktel each had an RBI for the Trojans.
Brownsville (12-2) pitcher Nick Climes earned the victory to extend the Falcons’ winning streak to seven games.
SOFTBALL
Taylor Vanata hit a pair of singles and a triple to lead Mapletown over Fort Cherry, 10-6, in a non-section game.
The Maples provided starter Madi Blaker with six runs in the third inning to take the lead, which she secured with a pair of shutout innings in the fourth and fifth, to earn the victory. Sara Chory had a pair of doubles for Mapletown (8-7). Madoleen Grim also hit a double.
Amy Alaure led Fort Cherry (4-11) in its final game with two singles and a double.
• Marley Evans went 4-for-5, Karen Watkins hit two triples and California defeated playoff-bound Beth-Center, 15-10, in a non-section game.
Britney Bevan added a pair of hits for the Trojans, who picked up their second win in the last four tries. California is 3-12 overall.
Beth-Center is 3-12 overall after losing its last four games.
