Wild Things postponed

The Frontier League baseball game between the Washington Wild Things and the Lake Erie Crushers was postponed Saturday because of inclement weather.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader today starting at 1 p.m. in Avon, Ohio. Both games will be seven innings.

Knetzer returning

to nationals

For the second consecutive year, Waynesburg University thrower Addy Knetzer qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Veteran’s Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wisc.

Knetzer, a Chartiers-Houston graduate and senior at Waynesburg, will compete in the shot put, trying to improve on last year’s fourth-place finish. She recently won the 2018 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III title and her fourth Presidents’ Athletic Conference championship in the event.

The championships begin May 24.

At The Meadows

Moosonee moved three wide into the final turn and roared through the lane to capture the fastest division in Saturday’s $174,888 Pennsylvania Sires Stake for 3-year-old colt and gelding trotters at The Meadows.

The event, known as the Super Bowl, was contested over four divisions, with Captain Morgan, Whats The Word and Donatover also taking splits. None of the winners was the betting favorite, suggesting that this division will be wide open throughout the PASS season.

The sloppy track didn’t deter the Explosive Matter-Lady Andover gelding, who angled off the cones for Aaron Merriman and zipped home in a career-best 1:54 in his sophomore debut.

Defending PA champ Fashionwoodchopper was trapped in but was able to shoot the Lightning Lane for second, 1-1/2 lengths back, with early leader Gemologist third.

Captain Morgan won a single race at two, but he came back more powerful and determined, scoring handily on the front end. Evaluate was second, while Im Your Captain completed the ticket.

Dawson Springs earned show.

Health issues force Hossa to retire

Chicago Blackhawks veteran forward Marian Hossa says he’s retiring because of health issues.

In an interview with the Slovak newspaper Novy Cas, Hossa says he’s done playing hockey.

The 39-year-old missed the entire season due to a progressive skin disorder and side effects of medication to treat it. He won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2010, 2013 and 2015.

He says “I have a contract with Chicago for the next three years, but I have to watch my health” and that makes a comeback not possible.

In his 1,309 NHL games, Hossa 1,134 points for 525 goals and 609 assists.

Hossa was selected at No. 12 by the Ottawa Senators in the 1999 NHL Draft. He played for the Blackhawks, Senators, Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Detroit.

Cowboys receiver Williams arrested

Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrance Williams has been arrested on a charge of public intoxication after police responded to an accident involving his car and found Williams riding an electric bicycle on a road near his home.

Police in the Dallas suburb of Frisco say Williams’ Lamborghini left a roadway and struck a light pole near the team’s practice facility around 4:45 a.m. Saturday. Police say the driver had left the scene. Officers found Williams while investigating the crash.

Williams was released from jail on bond on the misdemeanor intoxication charge.

The 28-year-old Williams was expected to miss all the offseason workouts after breaking his right foot in January and having surgery.

The Cowboys and Williams’ agent didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
