High school football roundup: Ryan scores 6 TDs in Cal’s win

Cochise Ryan scored six touchdowns as California cruised to its first victory of the season with a convincing 57-6 win over Avella in a Tri-County South Conference game.

In the first two minutes of the game, Ryan already had a pair of touchdowns with a 34-yard run and catching a 35-yard pass from Austin Grillo. Damoni Stafford then scored from 15 yards out to give the Trojans an 18-0 lead less than three minutes after the opening kickoff.

Ryan later scored on runs of 38, 73, 90 and 16 yards as California (1-1, 1-2) pulled away. He finished with 258 yards on five carries, scoring every time he touched the ball.

Owen English scored the only touchdown for Avella (0-1, 1-2) with 1:27 remaining in the game. He led the Eagles with 43 yards on 15 carries.

Jefferson-Morgan 40, Mapletown 6

Jacob Broadwater ran for 70 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns as Jefferson-Morgan defeated Mapletown, 40-6, in a Tri-County South Conference game.

It was the first win of the season for the Rockets, who picked up 273 of their 277 total yards running the football. Colby Rutan also had a pair of scores for J-M (1-1, 1-2).

Lance Stevenson totaled 55 yards on eight carries with a touchdown and had 47-yard reception for Mapletown (0-1, 0-3).

Ambridge 14, Waynesburg 0

Two second-quarter touchdowns lifted Ambridge over visiting Waynesburg, 14-0, in a nonconference game and ended the Bridgers’ 22-game losing streak.

Mason Osborn found Omarri Flannigan early in the second quarter opening score of the game, then Osborn plunged into the end zone from one yard to lead 14-0 entering halftime.

Waynesburg (0-1, 1-2) unsuccessfully tried an onside kick to open the second half and had a 66-yard touchdown from Caleb Shriver called back by a holding penalty. Shriver had 43 yards on 16 carries. Nate Stephenson had 17 carries for 54 yards for the Raiders.

Deyvon Gill-Martin led Ambridge (0-0, 0-3) with 83 yards rushing.

Washington 58, Summit Academy 0

Zack Swartz completed 14 of 21 passes for 240 yards and 4 touchdowns as Washington mauled Summit Academy, 58-0, in a nonconference game.

Swartz hit Dylan Asbury from 65 yards out, Zahmere Robinson from 10, Isaiah Walton from 38 and Dan Walker from 3 yards for the Prexies (0-1, 2-1). Asbury also scored on runs of 19 and 3 yards.

Robinson caught 6 passes for 82 yards and Dan Walker 4 for 37. Washington’s defense held Summit Academy to 80 total yards.

South Fayette 36, New Castle 0

Mike Trimbur caught two touchdown passes as South Fayette breezed to a 36-0 victory over New Castle in a Class 4A Northwest 8 Conference game.

Trimbur had scoring receptions of 54 and 36 yards for the Lions (2-0, 2-1) and finished with eight catches for 169 yards. Jamie Diven completed 18 of 25 for 249 yards. Andrew Franklin, who rushed for 117 yards on 19 carries, and Rayquin Glover, who had 85 on 9, also scored.

South Fayette got a safety when Eaman Horowitz blocked a New Castle punt out of its end zone.

New Castle fell to 1-1 in the conference and 1-2 overall.

Beth-Center 50, Brownsville 15

It was a perfect game behind center for Beth-Center quarterback Bailey Lincoski.

The senior completed all eight of his passes for 218 yards and four total scores as the Bulldogs defeated Brownsville, 50-15, in an Interstate Conference game.

Lincoski began the scoring when he found Devin Dingle for a 63-yard pass on the opening possession for Beth-Center (2-0, 3-0). He then ran into the end zone from 12 yards out before finding Dingle again for a 45-yard touchdown to take a 22-0 lead with 10:20 left in the second quarter.

Dominic Fundy had a pair of touchdown runs, finishing with 167 yards on 15 carries.

JJ Green and Dingle had 100 and 118 yards, respectively.

Seneca Valley 31, Canon-McMillan 0

Gabe Lawson scored three touchdowns to lead Seneca Valley to a 31-0 victory over Canon-McMillan in a Class 6A Quad County Conference game.

Lawson ran one in from 23 and threw TD passes to Josh McLean and Saige Ley.

Jon Quinque completed 12 of 28 passes for 123 yards and an interception for C-M (0-2, 0-2).

McGuffey 41, Frazier 21

Christian Clutter scored four touchdowns and C.J. Cole returned an interception 100 yards for another score to help McGuffey roll past Frazier, 41-21, in a Class AA Interstate game.

Clutter had scoring runs of 19, 7 and 3 yards and caught an 18-yard scoring pass from Marshall Whipkey for the Highlanders (1-0, 3-0). Clutter ran for 114 yards. McKinley Whipkey had a 4-yard scoring run.

The Highlanders did not allow a point in the second half.

Julian Mucciolli, who had 194 total yards, scored two touchdowns for Frazier (1-1, 1-2).
