Girls soccer
Jocelyn Timlin scored four goals to lead Bentworth to a 5-0 win over Charleroi in a Section 2-A match.
Paige Marshalek had four assists for the Bearcats, who rebounded from their first loss of the season to improve to 3-0 in section play and 5-1 overall.
Cande Kossel earned a shutout.
Charleroi falls to 1-2 in section and 1-3 overall.
- Caitlyn O’Toole recorded a hat trick as Montour defeated South Fayette, 4-1, in a Section 4-AAA match.
Helina Van Bidder scored the only goal for South Fayette (2-2, 4-2).
- Chartiers-Houston posted a 5-1 win over Geibel to remain undefeated in Section 2-A.
Ashley Horvath tallied two goals and an assist for the Bucs (4-0, 5-3), while Alyssa Wright, Keely Acorn and Mckenzie Price collected a goal. Kasey Scears recorded five saves in net for C-H.
- Rhea Kijowski scored a pair of goals as Waynesburg defeated Mt. Pleasant, 6-1, in a Section 3-AA game.
Kylie Sinn, Kaley Pell, Elise Benke and Brenna Benke scored for Waynesburg (3-1, 4-2).
- Bethel Park was able to edge Canon-McMillan 1-0 in Section 2-AAAA play.
Natalie DiGiornor collected the only goal of the night for the Black Hawks (2-2-1, 4-2-1).
Ashley Vargg made seven saves for the Big Macs (2-2-1, 3-2-1).
- Peters Township suffered their first loss of the season after a 2-1 setback to Moon in Section 2-AAAA play.
Jillian Marvin compiled the lone goal for Indians (4-1, 6-1), while Hannah Stuck grabbed the assist on the marker.
Moon is now 3-1-1 in section play and 4-1-1 overall.
Boys soccer
Belle Vernon goalkeeper TJ Watson stopped all three shots he saw to earn his first shutout and lead the Leopards to a 5-0 victory over Uniontown in Section 3-AAA.
Aaron Brown scored two goals for Belle Vernon (3-1-1, 6-1-1). Daniel Sassak, Markello Apodiakos and Hunter Meade also scored for the Leopards.
C-M graduate Gall honored by PAC
For the second time this season, Washington & Jefferson College’s Damon Gall was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week.
Gall, a Canon-McMillan graduate, placed 45th with a time of 22:34 at the Allegheny Classic, which was good for third on the Presidents.
W&J’s Harley Moyer earned PAC Runner of the Week.
Presidents earn conference awards
Washington & Jefferson’s Nick Getz was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after a 36-14 win over Carnegie Mellon Saturday.
Getz, who missed last season with an injury, had a 13 tackles, including 11 in the second half to set a new career high. He also had two sacks and broke up a pass.
- For the second consecutive week, a member of the Washington & Jefferson men’s golf team was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week, as freshman Ben Peticca earned his first conference honor.
Peticca placed second in the Carnegie Mellon Fall Shootout at The Links at Spring Church with a two-day score of 136. He led a historic day for the Presidents, who posted a program record 9-under 271 in round two to win the even with a combined score of 561.
- W&J’s Joseph Feola was named the PAC Conference Men’s Soccer Roockie of the Week.
Feola scored both goals in a 2-1 comeback victory over La Roche College.
