Sources: Cowboys, Lawrence agree

DeMarcus Lawrence has the long-term contract he felt he deserved after the star defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys played one season under the franchise tag.

Lawrence and the Cowboys have agreed on a $105 million, five-year contract with $65 million guaranteed, two people with knowledge of the agreement told the Associated Press on Friday. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal hasn’t been announced.

The sides had until July 15 to work out a long-term contract after the club used the franchise tag on its best pass rusher again. A year ago, Lawrence signed the $17.1 million offer right away. This time he didn’t, and had been putting off shoulder surgery while negotiations dragged.

Baylor to play

for NCAA title

Kalani Brown scored 22 points and Lauren Cox added 21 as Baylor held off Final Four newcomer Oregon 72-67 Friday night to reach the women’s basketball championship game for the first time since 2012.

The Lady Bears (36-1) won their 28th straight game, exerting themselves defensively down the stretch. Chloe Jackson delivered a go-ahead layup with 39 seconds left and Brown and Cox finished out the victory with free throws for the overall top-seeded team.

Baylor will play the winner of the UConn-Notre Dame semifinal for the title on Sunday night.

In the NBA

Kemba Walker scored 29 points, and Jeremy Lamb made another clutch 3-ponter as the Charlotte Hornets beat the Toronto Raptors 113-111 on Friday night.

Lamb’s winning shot came less than two weeks after he hit an improbable half-court buzzer-beater to shock the Raptors in Toronto in one of the craziest endings in the NBA this season. Lamb finished with 22 points and Frank Kaminsky added 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Hornets (37-42), who kept their slim postseason hopes alive and surpassed their win total of the previous two seasons.

Kawhi Leonard had 29 points for Toronto, but missed a fall-away jumper with 1 second left.

  • LaMarcus Aldridge scored 24 points, Rudy Gay added 18 and the San Antonio Spurs beat Washington Wizards 129-112.
  • The Orlando Magic used a franchise-record 81 points in the first half to cruise past the Atlanta Hawks 149-113 in their regular-season home finale and take another step toward a playoff berth.

Nikola Vucevic, Terrence Ross and Evan Fournier scored 25 points each for Orlando, which set a season high for points despite having 19 turnovers. Vucevic added 10 rebounds to compile his 59th double-double of the season. Ross made six 3-pointers, and Fournier shot 11 for 14.
