Earl “Dan” Gump, 71, of Wellsburg, W.Va., died Wednesday, April 17, 2019, in Weirton (W.Va.) Medical Center.
He was born March 16, 1948, in Washington, a son of Jean Brooks Gump of Washington.
A 1966 graduate Trinity High School, Mr. Gump graduated with high honors from ITT Tech with a degree in computer forensics. For 28 years, he worked for Hankinson Machine.
Mr. Gump enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his loving wife.
He was Presbyterian.
Mr. Gump was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from June 10, 1966, until his honorable discharge March 19, 1970, with a rank of sergeant. He was awarded the Air Force Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
On January 20, 1998, he married Cheryl Johnson, who survives.
Also surviving are six daughters, Carrie (Craig) Stockwell of Seattle, Wash., Dana (Lewis) McGhee Sterle of San Diego, Calif., Shannon (Dan) Jones of Australia, Tanya Scott of Wellsburg, Kimberly (Brian) Piatt of Washington and Colleen Watt of Washington; a brother, David (Diane) Gump of Washington; a sister, Cheryl (Don) Miner of Washington; many grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Deceased are a sister, Susan Colleen Gump, and a brother, R. Edward Gump.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of service, Monday, April 22, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with the Rev. Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Military rites will be accorded at the funeral home by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
