In boys basketball

Drew Engel and Ethan Beachy combined for 16 points in the fourth quarter as Canon-McMillan rallied late to defeat Class 6A Section 2 foe Baldwin, 63-57, in one of the few games that was not canceled by the inclement weather Friday night.

Engel, who led the Big Macs with 16 points, scored nine points in the final eight minutes. Beachy had half of his 14 points in the fourth quarter as Canon-McMillan (5-4, 10-8) takes sole possession of third place in the section standings with Peters Township losing.

After leading by five points, 43-38, entering the fourth quarter, Baldwin (1-8, 7-12) was outscored 25-14. Andy Degenhardt, Dorian Ford and Joey Starzynski each finished with 11 points for the Highlanders.

Luke Palma added 14 and Elliott Waller chipped in 10 for C-M.

• Six three-pointers and 26 points for Michael Koroly wasn’t enough to help Trinity end its losing streak as the Hillers fell to Thomas Jefferson, 58-52, in a pivotal Class 5A Section 2 game.

Entering the game, the two teams were deadlocked for fourth place in the section, each with a 4-7 record.

Noah Pierce led Thomas Jefferson (4-7, 10-9) with 12 points. Isaac McNeil scored 10 for the Jaguars, who extended its slim, one-point lead entering the fourth quarter with 24 points in the final eight minutes.

Jake Hancher also reached double figures for Trinity (4-8, 7-12) with 11 points.

It is the sixth consecutive loss for the Hillers.

In girls basketball

Reilly Sunday scored 19 points as Moon stayed alive in the playoff hunt by upending Trinity, 46-36, in a Class 5A Section 1 game.

If Trinity (7-5, 10-8) won, it would have clinched a playoff berth.

The Hillers’ offensive struggles started early as Moon had a 15-11 lead at half. Sunday and Aubree Evans, who scored 10 points, helped Moon (6-6, 9-9) pull away in the third quarter by outscoring Trinity 14-7.

Freshman Alyssa Clutter scored a game- and career-high 22 points for Trinity.
