Eric Williams Jr. scored 22 points, tying his season high, as Duquesne topped George Washington 85-69 on Saturday. Frankie Hughes added 21 points for the Dukes.
Sincere Carry had 15 points and six assists for Duquesne (8-5 Atlantic 10 Conference, 17-9). Marcus Weathers added 12 points and eight rebounds.
DJ Williams had 21 points for the Colonials (3-9, 7-18), who have now lost four straight games. Maceo Jack added 20 points. Terry Nolan Jr. had 16 points.
The Dukes improve to 2-0 against the Colonials on the season. Duquesne defeated George Washington 91-85 on Jan. 20. Duquesne plays George Mason on the road next Saturday. George Washington takes on UMass at home on Wednesday.
Kansas 78, West Virginia 53:
Devon Dotson and K.J. Lawson each scored 15 points, and No. 14 Kansas beat depleted West Virginia 78-53.
Dedric Lawson, K.J.’s brother, had 14 points for the Jayhawks (9-4 Big 12, 20-6), who won their third straight as they continue to start four freshmen.
Lamont West and Chase Harler scored 11 points apiece for West Virginia (2-10, 10-15), which struggled without former starters Esa Ahmed and Wesley Harris, who were dismissed from the team earlier in the week for violating athletic department policies. Ahmed was averaging 12 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, while Harris was putting up 7.9 points and 4.5 rebounds.
Kansas held West Virginia to a season-low 16 points at halftime, and the Mountaineers shot 33.9 percent for the game, including 3 of 23 from 3-point range.
The Mountaineers finished with 24 turnovers.
Purdue 76, Penn State 64:
Carsen Edwards scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half and Matt Haarms added a career-high 18 points to lead No. 12 Purdue past Penn State, 76-64.
The Boilermakers (11-3 Big Ten, 18-7) reclaimed a share of the conference lead with their ninth win in 10 games.
Lamar Stevens finished with 18 points and Rasir Bolton had 17 for Penn State (2-12, 9-16). The Nittany Lions have lost have 10 of 12.
The Edwards-Haarms combination completely changed the game early in the second half. The duo teamed up to score nine points in a 14-2 run that turned a four-point game into a 50-34 lead.
Penn State answered with six straight to cut the deficit to 50-40 and eventually got as close as 61-56 when Josh Reaves completed a three-point play with 4:27 left. But Purdue closed it out with an 8-0 run.
It was an odd game. The Big Ten’s two top scorers — Edwards and Stevens — both played through foul trouble and turned the ball over a combined 15 times. Neither team followed its usual script in the first half, either.
