QB Hurts will transfer to Oklahoma
Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts has decided to transfer to Oklahoma.
Hurts made the announcement Wednesday in a story in the Players’ Tribune. He will be available immediately as a graduate transfer. Hurts was a two-year starter who led Alabama to a pair of national championship games and was Southeastern Conference offensive player of the year as a freshman.
Hurts left Alabama with 5,626 yards and 48 touchdowns passing and 1,976 yards and 23 touchdowns rushing.
KC pitcher suspended
Kansas City Royals pitcher Eric Skoglund was suspended Monday for the season’s first 80 games after testing positive for two performance-enhancing substances.
The commissioner’s office said the positive tests were for selective androgen receptor modulators S-22 (Ostarine) and LGD-4033 (Ligandrol).
Skoglund was 1-6 with a 5.14 ERA last season. The 26-year-old lefty was in the rotation in April and May, missed the next three months because of an elbow sprain and pitched well in September.
The 6-7 Skoglund made his big league debut in 2017, going 1-2 with a 9.50 ERA in seven games. He was a candidate to begin this season in the rotation, a year after the Royals went 58-104 and finished last in the AL Central.
WVU hires coach
Former safety Jahmile Addae is returning to West Virginia as a coach on the defensive staff.
New West Virginia football coach Neal Brown announced Addae’s hiring.
Addae spent last season as the defensive backs coach at Minnesota. He also spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Arizona. Addae was a four-year starter at West Virginia, graduating in 2006.
Brown also announced the hiring of Al Pogue as a defensive assistant. Pogue was the cornerbacks coach under Brown at Troy last season.
Tiger Woods is starting another year at Torrey Pines, this time with higher expectations.
Woods to play at Torrey Pines
Woods announced Wednesday that he will play in the Farmers Insurance Open next week. He has won the tournament seven times, and Torrey Pines is where he won the U.S. Open in 2008.
Woods tied for 23rd a year ago when no one – himself included – was sure what to expect. He was coming off a fourth back surgery, this one to fuse his lower spine. This will be his first PGA Tour event since he won the Tour Championship last September.
