Penguins trade Oleksiak

The Dallas Stars reacquired defenseman Jamie Oleksiak from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday in exchange for a fourth-rank draft pick.

The deal came on the same day Stars defenseman Marc Methot underwent season-ending surgery to repair a cartilage defect in his left knee.

Dallas had sent Oleksiak to Pittsburgh in December 2017 for a fourth-round draft pick. General manager Jim Nill says the Stars know him well and that Oleksiak, who played in 36 games for Pittsburgh this season, will provide depth for an injury-depleted defense.

Methot came to Dallas from Ottawa in a trade before the 2017-18 season. Knee issues limited the defenseman to 45 games the past two seasons.

Barrett honored

by PAC

California University women’s basketball player Seairra Barrett was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division Athlete of the Week for the third time this season.

Barrett had a pair of double-doubles in the Vulcans’ wins over No. 1 Indiana and Mercyhurst. In the 61-56 victory over IUP, Barrett scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. She then scored 31 points and added 10 rebounds in a 62-56 win over upset-minded Mercyhurst Saturday afternoon.

A two-time All-PSAC West selection, Barrett is averaging 23.7 points and 8.7 rebounds this season.

Waynesburg pair earn PAC awards

After double-digit wins over Chatham and Westminster, a pair of Waynesburg University women’s basketball players were honored by the Presidents Athletic Conference.

Sophomore guard Andrea Orlosky was named the PAC Player of the Week, averaging 22 points and 12.5 rebounds in those victories. She scored a game-high 25 points against Westminster and 19 in the win over Chatham.

Freshman center Brooke Fuller is the PAC Rookie of the Week, the second time she has earned that award this season. Fuller scored a season-high 22 points against Chatham.

W&J’s Dovshek, Heinl awarded

Washington & Jefferson wrestler Manny Dovshek was named the PAC Rookie of the Week for the third time this year after going 5-1 in a dual against Waynesburg and at the Jamestown Open.

Dovshek, a Bentworth High School graduate, earned a pin in his bout against the Yellow Jackets. He followed that with a third-place finish at the Jamestown Open.

Dovshek is 24-12 this season, leading the Presidents with 18 pins.

Michael Heinl was awarded the wrestler of the week, going 5-0 by earning a technical fall against Waynesburg and finishing first in the Jamestown Open.
