Pens recall

Blueger

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Teddy Blueger from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League.

Blueger, 24, is Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s leading scorer with 21 goals and 39 points in 45 games. The 21 goals rank fourth in the AHL and they tie his career high previously set during the 2017-18 season in 70 games. Blueger is a team-leading plus-20 for WBS.

The 6-foot, 195-pound center is in his third full season with WBS. Blueger has accumulated 49 goals, 66 assists, 115 points and a plus-58 in 179 career games.

The Riga, Latvia, native was drafted by Pittsburgh in the second round, 52nd overall, of the 2012 draft.

In the NHL

Kyle Connor scored back-to-back goals 34 seconds apart in the third period and delivered the only goal in a shootout to lift the Winnipeg Jets over the Boston Bruins 4-3 on Tuesday night.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 36 shots for the Jets and didn’t allow anything past him in the tiebreaker, stopping Brad Marchand on Boston’s final chance.

Josh Morrissey also scored for the Jets, Mark Scheifele had two assists and Winnipeg rebounded from a 3-1 loss Monday night at Philadelphia to avoid losing three straight for the first time this season.

  • Conor Sheary scored early in the third period to lift the Buffalo Sabres over the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 on Tuesday night.

Sheary and Evan Rodrigues each had a goal and an assist for the Sabres, who won their first game back from a bye week and the All-Star break. They had lost four of five before the time off. Carter Hutton had 33 saves.

Marlins sign Walker

Switch-hitting infielder Neil Walker has agreed to a one-year contract with the Miami Marlins and is expected to compete for a starting job.

Walker was among the unsigned free agents last winter who attend a free-agent training camp in Bradenton, Florida, and he agreed in mid-March to a $4 million, one-year contract with the New York Yankees.

He slumped badly, hitting .197 with 19 RBIs in the first half, then improved to .247 with 27 RBIs in the second half to finish at .219 with 11 homers and 46 RBIs in 113 games.

Walker has a .268 career average and has reached double figures in homers every year since 2010.

He has also been with the Pirates, Mets and Brewers. Walker has played mostly at second base, but also has played at first and third and in the outfield, where he could see playing time with the Marlins.

Packers bring

back Getsy

The Green Bay Packers are bringing back Luke Getsy, this time as their quarterbacks coach to work with Aaron Rodgers.

Getsy spent four seasons on former coach Mike McCarthy’s staff before leaving to become Mississippi State’s offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach last year.

Getsy was Green Bay’s receivers coach from 2016-17 and a quality control coach from 2014-15. He will help Rodgers adjust to new coach Matt LaFleur’s offense.

In college basketball

Dylan Osetkowksi scored 16 points and Texas used stifling defense to snap a 10-game losing streak to No. 11 Kansas with a 73-63 win Tuesday night.

Jase Febres made three 3-pointers late in the second half as Texas fought off a late rally that saw the Jayhawks get within three points. Texas hadn’t beaten the Jayhawks since 2014.

  • Cameron Johnson scored 22 points and No. 9 North Carolina won its fourth straight game, beating Georgia Tech, 77-54.
  • Admiral Schofield had 20 of his 24 points in the second half to lead No. 1 Tennessee to its school record-tying 15th straight victory, 92-70 over South Carolina on Tuesday night.

Grant Williams added 23 points for the Vols (19-1, 7-0 Southeastern Conference), who saw a double-digit lead cut to 60-58 with 13 minutes to play. Jordan Bone then scored five straight points to start an 18-6 run over the next six minutes that helped Tennessee stay perfect in SEC play.

In the NBA

Jordan Clarkson scored 28 points, Cedi Osman had 26 and the Cleveland Cavaliers held off Washington’s fourth-quarter comeback to beat the Wizards 116-113 on Tuesday night.
