Changes coming for college basketball
The three-point line is moving back in college basketball.
The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel announced Wednesday that the arc will be moved to 22 feet, 1 ¾ inches for the 2019-20 season, matching the international distance.
The change will not go into effect in Division II and III until 2020-21 due to the potential financial impact on schools.
The three-point line was last moved in 2008-09, extending a foot to 20 feet, 9 inches.
The panel also approved resetting the shot clock to 20 seconds after an offensive rebound and gave coaches the ability to call live-ball timeouts in the last two minutes of the second half and any overtime period.
Players also will be assessed technical fouls for derogatory language about an opponent’s race, religion, sexual orientation or disability.
Jets’ Bell reportedly robbed
Authorities say two female acquaintances vanished with more than half a million dollars in jewelry from star NFL running back Le’Veon Bell’s Florida home.
Hollywood police say Bell returned from the gym May 25 and found the women gone and his jewelry missing. The police report obtained by the Associated Press refers to the two women as Bell’s girlfriends.
Bell said items in his closet were in disarray and all his jewelry was missing, including two gold chains with diamonds, a black panther pendant with black and white diamonds and a Rolex. They total $520,000. Police said they are investigating.
Bell practiced with the New York Jets on Tuesday for the first time since signing with them in March. He signed a four-year, $52.5 million deal – including $35 million guaranteed -after sitting out last season with Pittsburgh in a contract dispute.
NFL heading north of the border
The Oakland Raiders will take on the Green Bay Packers in an exhibition game in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The Raiders announced Wednesday that their home preseason game on Aug. 22 will be played at 33,000-seat IG Field in Winnipeg. It will be the Raiders’ first game ever in Canada and the first for any NFL team since the Buffalo Bills played games in Toronto from 2008-13. The Raiders also will play a regular-season game in London on Oct. 6 against the Chicago Bears.
The Raiders had been looking to move one of their home preseason games after taking until March to sign a lease to remain at the Oakland Coliseum for one more season before a planned move to Las Vegas.
WVU lands transfer QB
Bowling Green quarterback Jarret Doege has transferred to West Virginia.
Mountaineers coach Neal Brown announced Wednesday that Doege has enrolled in classes. Doege will have to sit out the 2019 season and will be eligible to play two more seasons.
Doege started all 12 games for the Falcons as a sophomore in 2018. He completed 62 percent of his passes for 2,600 yards and threw 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Brown was the offensive coordinator at Texas Tech earlier this decade when Doege’s older brother, Seth, broke several school passing records.
